As I been seein the sights across the U.S., I'm reminded that some of the best are waiting for me right back home in the good ole U.P. Tonight the photo inbox snagged this message:

Just thought I would pass these to you. I shot them Friday and Saturday at Hungarian falls in Tamarack City. With the warm temperatures the water really is flowing. Still quite a lot of snow in the woods and on the banks of the river which made for some interesting climbing. I really enjoy your site. Keep up the good work.

Which river is this and where is the stream as it comes down and enters Torch Lake. Is it the stream between 3rd and 5th St on Maple St in Tamarack City? Thanks....

It sure is that little stream. I live on Third and can't wait to get back home to see the falls!!!!

Those are on the Hungarian Creek. The First picture is the lower falls that are more impressive than any of the the other sets on the creek. The falls are located just off the road that connects Tamarack to golf course road. From M-26 north turn left on sixth street in Tamarack and this time of the year park and walk up the road (cause of all the snow still left) to the gate and follow the creek up ways to the falls. In the summer and fall it is possible to drive quite a bit closer but the falls are not nearly as impressive without the current runoff.

A definite WOW for the first picture. How about a picture of Jacob Falls at this time of the year? Keep up the good work and welcome aboard as a Pasty Camist.

Sean Tabacsko, thanks for fulfilling my request from Friday 4/11 for a picture of Hungarian Falls during spring snowmelt. Your shot surely is a WOW!Too bad Douglass Houghton Falls are off limits eh? Does anyone know of a way to approach Douglass Houghton Falls from downstream/below? The Keweenaw is truly remarkable. I wish I could spend more time than just a week in the fall.

I just thought that you might like to know, that Jokkmokk Sweden, right on the Arctic Circle, has just about as much snow remaining as I see on the Bridge Cam. But they only reached 50 degrees today. A few days ago, they didn't have as much snow.

This is the best time of the year to run these rapids.

If you are in the Houghton area check out the Tech Arts Festival (TAF). Many people have submitted photos into a competition. This week from 10am - 2pm in the Student Union Building photos, paintings, and drawings will be on display. Congratulations to Taka, who took 1st, and 2nd place with two of his submitted photos.

This is great to see pictures of the U.P. where we were born and raised. Brings back many good memories. Thanks for all the great pictures. We like to remember when we lived there and it will always be home to us. I left there in 1946 to join the Army Air Corp and enjoy my visits to the U.P.
