If you're a Pasty Cam regular, you know our yooper friend Toivo is travelling across the U.S., determined to visit every state. He helps me from time to time by uploading our daily photo. This morning Toivo's comments sparked a discussion about current world event's, for which we have opened a separate page. The mainstream conversation of the Pasty Cam is usually about the history, beauty, people and culture of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. You are welcome to add such comments here, or to join the conversation on the other page about the present conflict in Iraq.
By the way, we have added a diary of Toivo's 50 state tour mi

Beautiful photo - a reminder that "they who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up on wings like eagles. They shall run and not be weary. They shall walk and not faint." Thanks, Donn!

The only "war" I remember in the UP, was the old Tri-Dorm snowball fight on campus after the first big snowfall!

:D

Toivo's journal is great! I wonder if he's ever thought about writing a book? His humor brightens these snowy, blowy days of SPRING! April 3rd and the temp is 22°, with a 5° windchill...what kind of SPRING is this anyway? :)

Great photo! What are the chances of having your camera ready when seeing one of these beauties! Have missed many an opportunity around the Keweenaw myself.
Thanks for the Toivo tour diary. Great fun! I always recommend to people to take a cross-country road trip at least once in their lives. There is so much to be seen and sampled that can't be done any other way.
Thank you, also, Charlie, for separating the war commentary from the daily regular. You have a genius for finding a way to serve nearly everyone. Bless you.

Charlie,
I thank you for removing the political commentary to a seperate page.

Good Morning, Eagle Watchers:

At least it's still morning in Alaska. If you're interested, there's an eagle's nest to watch at http://www.eaglesnestcam.com/

This pair of eagles has returned to nest and can be followed from eggs to hatching to fledging. Two chicks hatched last year. The nest is located near Palmer, Alaska, northeast of Anchorage.

Charlie would like to take the time to thank you for putting on the other page for comments about the war.
I like this picture very much as the Eagle is one of my favorite birds. Can remember seeing them up ther in the U.P. when I was a kid but never had the chance to see one up close.

By Mary on Thursday, April 3, 2003 - 03:05 pm:

More links to watch Eagle's nests. This one is in Kent, WA.
They're both the same nest, just different views of it!

Enjoying Toivo's travels. Did he get to the Grand Canyon?

Donn - Fantastic picture of the Eagle! How did you come upon it to take a picture or did you follow it to Freda? :) We saw one a couple weeks ago on our way to Marquette. I felt lucky to have seen it.

Am enjoying the daily journal of Toivo's travels. How do I get the license plate that can be custom made with ones state/name?

By Ro, a Yooper now in SE MI on Thursday, April 3, 2003 - 06:18 pm:

To cak:
It says on the bottom of Toivo's "50 state tour" page (
http://www.pasty.com/ttravels.html) that the places are from: http://www.rtbrandon.com/blankplates/index.html ... choose one (or more) from there, and then you have to use a graphic program to put your own name on it. Upload that graphic to a web site, and link to it on this board in your post.

Hi Charlie,

Just got my latest order of da pasties this afternoon. Will share a couple of 'em with another Michigander (she's is not a Yooper however), in this little town in northwestern CA. She did know about pasties though, her mother used to make them. I even gave her a bottle of Toivo & Eino's Really Secret Sauce.

Yum! Yum!

Beautiful picture of our national symbol, the
proud bald eagle.

The wonderful bird was perched atop a pine trying to balance and I had the digital out and ready.

There is nothing more awesome than a bald eagle. I see adults and juveniles often near our home on Lake Michigan (my second favorite great lake -- Superior is my favorite:)). They soar along the shoreline in search of fish. Thanks for the links to the eagle nests. My husband and I are planning a trip to Alaska this summer. I look forward to seeing hundreds of eagles! They're one of my favorite birs. -- A Yooper who lives with the trolls.

toivo, i did even notice your trip log page at pasty.com, if i knew you were coming thru coeur d alene, id, i would have went up to one of the interstate 90 overpasses and waived "hi" to ya.

My wife and I had the last two pasties from our last Still Waters order tonight for supper! Super!
I need a pen pal from Gwinn.

Thanks for the great eagle shot. I did an eagle watch at a nest by Lake Gogebic for years. Could even do my coughing and call the eaglets. They thought I was a fixture with a cough. LOL. But finally a storm took down the nest and just wasn't able to get the time to stake out another area. But have some great shots and memories. Have taken to carrying the cameras again. We did see some eagles on US2 the last week.

I saw my first robin for the Spring if that counts for anything.....certainly the weather isn't cooperating.
