We had to pick up a damaged sled at Lac La Belle yesterday and took these pics amongst 65 others. The pic of Lake Superior is across the sand dunes between Eagle Harbor and Eagle River. I think that the Keweenaw County Courthouse is as majestic as the trees protecting it.

Awaking to the sound of a howling Canadian wind this morning here in Eagle River, I knew Karla's pictures in our photo inbox would be a nice touch. I seems like another planet when we watched Sheriff Ron Lahti and his son play ball at this spot a few summers ago.

Well, speaking for myself and I am unanimous in that, it's kinda nice to be looking at snow rather than frozen slush.

I think you got a shot of Nessy (Loch Ness Monster) poking his head up near the shoreline. The Keweenaw could be in for it's biggest tourist season in history this summer looking for the 'MONSTER'.

That's not Nessie. That's Keewie, Nessie's Lake Superior cousin.

I reckon it is Nessie on holiday, and this is why we haven't heard of any sightings on Loch Ness lately!!! He will return to these shores just before the tourist season starts.

The different angle in the summer picture caught the corner of the Jail, which is also the Sheriff's family residence. The winter shot was taken out in the street. But the house is still there.

my husband and i took the "keewenaw cruise" sunday.it was quite nice sunday but the roads were slushy so we stopped at the sand dunes to give the windows the copper country washing.you know,when you throw snowballs at the window and turn on your wipers!i had to chuckle thinking of how many of us do this without thinking twice.where and who started this anyway?are we taught or told to do this or is it copper country instinct?

I can certainly verify the snow and high wind reports. I arrived here Saturday at the Eagle Lodge on the northern shore just west of Copper Harbor and we're snowed in. I've been helping plow/shovel the snow with the owner Doug Johnson and now it's time for a fire and some more coffee. We'll be at it again later I'm sure. I had intended to head south this a.m. but I'm stuck at least until tomorrow. The waves on Lake Superior are huge today. They've eroded the snow volcanoes that were along the shore yesterday. Wish me luck for tomorrow.

Hi Susie! We were just talking about you the other night, remembering your patience when the kids were taking piano lessons. Seems like ages ago, now that they're both married and living in places of their own. Jonathan and Katriina bought George Rosengana's old house here in Eagle River, working full time for Pasty.NET, and Becky and Bryan live in married housing at Michigan Tech, where she answers the pasty phone and processes orders all day. Bryan had some neat winter camping shots on the Pasty Cam last week.

I have been shoveling all day...had my yooper scoop going full tilt! My uncle and I were just discussing when I relocate for work, that less snow is a critera for my relocation. He told me, "just tie your snow scoop to the top of your car and the first place you stop and someone asks you what the heck is that thing? then you've gone far enough"--lol I think he has something there!

I'm glad everyone liked the pictures. I didn't see what you did until I read the messages. I'm not a good photographer and am always surprised when Charlie decides to put them on. Also, I just love the way the flag peeks out among the tree branches in front of the Courthouse. I guess I was compelled to take that picture because it is such a solid reminder of the building of America and the wonder that it has lasted for so many years, and hasn't been torn down, or modified to make way for new construction. When we drove by I just got a feeling I can't explain.
By the way, as Joe from Aurora, Il at the Eagle Lodge says, the water is open again, according to many of my snowmobile renters that rode up that way. They were amazed at the height of the waves and the beauty of them hitting the frozen shoreline. They had never seen anything like it. Have a great day!

To Luanne: That wouldn't happen to be the Reed Harjala who played in a band back in the early 60's called "Headchoppers Ltd." would it? I remember Reed played guitar, Larry Gariepy played drums. Can't recal who the bass player was. I used to hang around with Larry's brother Jimmy. If I'm not mistaken, Reed even made his own guitar. He wouldn't know me, I was a young punk of a kid, maybe 9 or 10 years old. If you see him, ask him about this. Thanks.

To Ron: I don't know if it is the one and same Reed Harjala. He is a Calumet area boy, older than me by a few years, but I would be too young to know the Headchoppers. Someone around must know the answer, but as I don't live in the area at this time I can't ask him. The Reed I know of, played with Gary Sastominen, Scott Perkins, and Roger Laub in Dodge Street in the 70's. Nowadays, Reed often performs in Fat Chance. Hope someone can answer this for you.
