Aerial photography fascinates me. Reminds me of playing with houses and trees in a train set, along with the little toy cars and people. I've been browsing through Rick Anderson's Skypixs.com, with a wealth of aerial views from across the U.P. Makes me feel like a kid in a candy store.

Have any idea where this neighborhood is located? And can you name the business down the street to the left of these houses? The first Cammie to post the right answers will win a Pasty Central T-shirt. Monday morning we'll announce a winner or give a hint.

By Debi Steinle on Saturday, January 18, 2003 - 03:49 pm:

This is Bootjack Road (or 9th Street) in Lake Linden. The business to the left of the houses is Kyllonen's.

Debi Steinle, Laurium

This is my first visit to your site & I am in awe! I have already looked @ every single picture from 2001! I've been to the UP every summer for the last 3 years with my boyfriend. It is one of our favorite places to visit. The scenery & waterfalls are absolutely beautiful. I've even been perusing other links on this website. What a great resource! I have added MANY pictures to use as wallpaper on my computer. If I ever want to "escape", this is the perfect place to do it! Keep up the great work!!!

By Mary Drew on Saturday, January 18, 2003 - 04:52 pm:

Debi is correct! That's definitely 9th Street (Bootjack Road) in Lake Linden. BUT, Debi spelled Kyllonen's incorrectly. It's actually Kiilunen Repair Works! Nice shot Rick.

Did I say Monday we'll announce the winner? Forgot this was the Internet, where things happen in minutes, not days.

Just email me the T-Shirt size you'd like, Debi, and we'll see that you get it.

When my wife saw this shot, she thought it was in the Hancock neighborhood near the Keweenaw Co-op. You can fool some of the people some of the time.

By KATHY, LAPEER, MI on Saturday, January 18, 2003 - 06:38 pm:

By Dam Guy, Parasite Creek on Saturday, January 18, 2003 - 08:19 pm:

Dang. My guess(es) of Hurontown or Laurium appear to be way off base. And it's certainly not the suburbs of Swedetown...

By Downstate, MI on Sunday, January 19, 2003 - 01:23 am:

At first glance it looks like abstract art.
Anyhow, very attractive.

By Greta, Ca on Sunday, January 19, 2003 - 02:18 am:

By pegg, fla on Sunday, January 19, 2003 - 11:19 am:

This picture thing works cool. thanks Toivo. Fran, check your e-mail. Alex, my apologies for no snow.

For those interested, the house was built in 1860 by my great-great grandfather as their summer home. Naw, they didn't have any money. I sure don't now, I'm doing good if I can pay the taxes on the place. Oh, but what a spot though!!eH? Went through 9 gallons of paint last summer. Everybody is welcome as long as they bring a paint brush.

By Jack, Oscoda on Sunday, January 19, 2003 - 05:49 pm:

Jock from LL Heights a ustawasbeaupper, wintering in Texas. One of the houses to the right of the picture was owned by Mike Laverdiere who aptly named that area SMELLY BAY due to the fires that burned in the dump and the burning ashes from the power plant that were dumped there and not to forget that the LL effuelent was let into the lake at that point from the day one till the 50's.

By Brian Geshel, Lake Linden on Sunday, January 19, 2003 - 06:01 pm:

By Brian Geshel Lake Linden on Monday, January 20, 2003 - 05:51 pm:

I bought my fist chainsaw from Carley......& looking down on the Shop brings back many good memories..

Heart-felt thanks to Skypixs for sharing their great photos with all of us..."former Copper Country" folks..........

Looking down on my old trapline in Dollar Bay & memories of the many nights of incredible "smelting" at the base of "New Road" Hill...was a real gift........!

By C.K. on Friday, January 24, 2003 - 01:46 pm:

To Peter Kettenbiel in Montreal, Long time no see. Your dad Bruce was a regular at the shop. I am retired now, My son and grandson run the shop now. I see Your uncle Zane once in awhile. Is that Montreal as in Quebec. Can? Take care.

By Bob Brown, Alabama on Friday, January 24, 2003 - 05:13 pm:

My grandfather, John Brown, lived on this road in the 1930's on the corner of Gregory STeet, across from a big old sand stone building. Next to a family named Kettenbiel that had a daughter named Marilyn. I can not picture this exact area, but do recognize the old company house design in a couple of those shown. My father and his brothers grew up on a farm in the Trap Rock Valley and went to Monkeytown school and then to Lake Linden HS. My grandmother would walk some railroad tracks to town to do the shopping. I can still remember the clear, cold water than came from the faucets in the kitchen sink.

By Jeni, Sydney, Australia on Saturday, December 13, 2003 - 04:37 pm:

Almost a year later and I just found this photo. My first thought was, "What a great tapestry this would make!" Anyone out there got a knack for making grids from photographs? Let me know because I'd love to stitch this and hang it on my wall here in Sydney! Thanks for the photo Rick!
