Hello to all the Cousin Jacks and Cousin Jennies of this strange outerworld. I live in North Florida near Tallahassee and lost my house in Miami area in 1992 to Hurrican Andrew so we moved north rather than rebuild there . My father was born in St.Ives Cornwall and my mother's parents were also. They immigrated to the USA in 1875 to the Copper Country and begat seven sons and two daughters. My mother, Jessie White, was the last born and she married my father who came over in 1909 Sydney Harvey Beare. He was born at #1 Fish Street on the wharf at St. Ives. His grandfather was William German Stevens, the first registered TRINITY pilot for the St. Ives harbour and estuary. Anyway; my mothers family , the Whites, were mostly miners at the old C & H Mine in Calumet so if anyone outthere knows of the Whites in the Copper Harbour area would sure like to communicate with them. I'm sure enjoying your site and look forward to maybe talking with some relatives. Thanks.

Hello all! I love all the fall pictures being featured. It is still pretty green down this way. It seems like we are going to have late fall color here, that is if the leaves last on the trees long enough. Seems like when this happens some nasty wind/rain storm takes most of them off before the color change. OH well.....Anyway, I would love to see a fall picture from Lake of the Clouds or general area. Anyone have one from both the scenic lookout and down by the lake? That would make a great duo picture.

Just glancing through the pasty condiment debate, I didn't see my favorite. Many, MANY years ago, Isabelle Hagen of Houghton, MI introduced me to applesauce on pasties. Try it, you'll like it!

I have read all the e.mail about pasties, and how they should be eaten. It really doesn't matter how you eat them it's the taste that matter, sure pasties should taste great with out adding any thing to them. But some of us like our gravy, mustard, ketcup, and etc. Don't get me wrong all your Ideals are great. My husband can eat them with anything. please keep up the good job.

I tried to make it up to the Keweenaw Penn. this year but only made it as far as Cedarville. It's such a magical feeling when you cross bridge, everything gets clearer and fresher. I was born in Hancock and pretty much spent my childhood there. Now I'm a loper. I miss the winters actually, there was SO MUCH to do!! We moved to New Hampshire when I was in the ninth grade and I didn't get to graduate from HCH but would have been the class of 86 if anyone out there reads this send me a note!!

Sometime ago I found some copper outlet and switchplate covers on this site. I believe it was CopperWorks (?). Charlie our awesome webmaster tried to help me out but the number was disconnected. Does anyone know where to get the covers, plain, old looking, not shiny or fired? Anyone in the Copper Country still making something like that? I'd appreciate any help all you yoopers can give me. What is the fat content, etc in a meat pasty?Please email me asap so I can try these pasties, please. I can only have certain foods because of health reasons and sure have heard a lot about them. WHat is the nutritional value?

Just returned home (Seattle) from the U.P. and had to get right on and order another batch of pasties. Unfortunately, my visit was for my grandmother's (Evelyn Greenleaf of Dollar Bay) funeral. Kisses to all of my family still residing up there! Oh, my vote is for a little bit of ketchup, just always been done that way.

We have a friend here who is a huge George Gipp fan, his license plate and e-mail address have Gipper on them! Florida here again. We are still in the hot(90s) humid rainy season. How I envy those of you in the U.P. right now. Of course when January and February roll around I don't have any such feelings. Still love the Copper Country but the snow I love is that I see in pictures.
Sure do miss the fall colors. This is the first year we've been stuck here all summer so will be our first year without fall color.

Hello all! Just wondering if the fall colors have started to appear yet in the UP? Or is it still too early? We usually don't hit peak color down here until around Oct. 10. Wish I was up there to see the peak colors. I bet Lake Of The Clouds looks really beautiful then!! Not that it doesn't look beautiful at other times but just more so with all those firey fall colors around!

My vote is for catsup on pasties. When my Grandmother,who made the best pasties I've ever eaten before or since, passed away in the mid 70,s there was one pasty that she made in my mothers (Jeanne Dyni's) freezer. She was the best example of a loving mother, she let me have that pasty. That was the best pasty ever.I make them all the time for my family but there definately not like grandmas.

I like to moisten my pasties by slicing a small hole in the top and putting a tablespoon (or 2) of water inside. Close it and bake it! It makes a difference. Any comments?

Pasties are best with a little bit of catsup and butter! No gravy or mustard for me! My wife, Sandy, taught my mother-in-law how to make pasties. But one day she was going to surprise us and make pasties herself...well we were really surprised when we bit in and found she had put in peas and carrots instead of rutabaga! Another time she put in ground sausage instead of beef!

Gravy? Catsup? Mustard? Mayonaise? A good pasty should be eaten "au naturel". Any of the afore mentioned condiments only mask the flavor of the pasty and is an insult to the pasty maker.

Catsup on pasties gets my vote! I served tiny little mini pasties at my daughter's baby shower and kept telling everyone to put a little catsup on them, and finally my daughters said, "Okay, Mom, we get it!" I'm surprised my husband doesn't put Miracle Whip on his pasties, he put's it on everything. Not mayonnaise, has to be Miracle Whip.
