When Beth Jukuri was driving out toward Pequaming, near L'Anse, she noticed there was a bank of fog up ahead that came from out on Keweenaw Bay and had been blown inland. She said it was quite the surreal feeling to see the fog hanging over Lake Superior, seeming to be only where there were still icebergs floating in the Bay.

Having the fog appear over where the ice remained gave the whole scene an eerie feeling. Kind of mysterious, too, driving from a partly cloudy morning, with the sun trying to shine past the clouds, into a thick fog with low visibility. Beth said it only added to the weirdness of this spring with all the ice floes hanging on out on the Lake this late.

Weather here UP North, sure is a fascinating subject; it changes from minute to minute and location to location quickly. Keeps us on our toes!

Still swatting the skeeters, black flies and ankle biters, we don't mind, we have the nets and the Deep Woods Cutters.
Another perfect day today, the "Golden Pond" has been sleeping.....nice fishing, again. Sure miss those waves. No A/C tonight, open windows and we love it.

So happy for this; http://www.uppermichiganssource.com/news/story.aspx?id=1056513#.U5i9rstOXJI

While we were there, the only time the skeeters were
bad was when it was cloudy. When Ron climbed
Jacob's Falls, he said they were bad up in the
woods, too. Miss it already!

What do y'all know about 'skeeters' ~ I thought we only had them critters in the South.;)

Incredible photos, Beth! I especially love the second and third images. When were these photos shot? Does anyone know if there's still ice anywhere on Keweenaw Bay as of today?

That ice is just crazy! So amazing it still is there!

Ah, those Michigan fogs ~ I remember them well.

Mary, sorry about my earlier post, I thought I was posting (being silly) on What's Up last evening.:<

Enjoyed the pictures of the fog, especially the fog rolling in ones.I find that sitting and looking at fog puts me in a relaxed and pensive mood.
Shirley.......By the way the attempt to color the white lilacs failed, and I believe it was for the reason you stated. Have to find some daisies.

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Thursday, June 12, 2014 - 01:01 pm:

Yeah, I was afraid of that, Duane, but at least you gave it a try. Now, go hunt for some daisies or queen anne's lace.;)

We had a local news piece this past week. It conserned two local Caterpillar plants. One each in Dixon and Sterling Illinois. They are suppose to close and move some where in the UP. Some employees will go with them. Has any one up there heard anything about this? Are they moving to the Sault,? Marquette?

Still ice in the bay, eh?
