Today's Shoebox Memory brings a rare photo of the fuse factory at Eagle River from the late Alan Long's collection. It's part of the display that is being prepared for the new museum exhibit in the old schoolhouse (seen in this 1 minute video shot yesterday). The photo of the Falls is one by J.T. Reeder that gives a glimpse of that structure that channeled the water to provide the power for the factory.
We featured this business a couple of years ago on the Pasty Cam, recounting when it burned down in 1957:
We're fortunate to have home-grown historians like Alan Long and J.T. Reeder who have helped preserve these memories for us to pass along.
I was going to write more about the old fuse factory, but just received a call that we have some flooding at the The Hut because of all of the melting snow. The last 72 hours have been the most radical change we've seen this year, as winter has reluctantly given up its grip on the Keweenaw. I better run to start bailing-out a basement.
Have a good week :o)
