Birds still available?

Yes, on WhatsUP

By Mary Drew at Pasty Central (Mdrew) on Thursday, April 18, 2013 - 08:01 am:

The Pileated Woodpecker, is normally quite shy and elusive, so when Frank Jezek saw this one on his feeders, he grabbed his camera and started snapping away. They really are quite the comical looking bird and yes, the cartoon Woody Woodpecker, was fashioned after this very same bird. These crow-size birds, normally feast off bugs, leaving large, rectangular holes in the trees they chop away at. I'm guessing this guy, visiting Frank's feeding station, may have been looking for some suet or just an easy mid-day snack. Nice up close and personal photos, Frank. Thanks for sharing!

This isn't the first pictures of this bird on Pasty Cam. A large bird it is........

Not always shy. Had one land about ten feet away from where I was sitting last spring in Eagle River. After a couple of interesting minutes it dawned on me the it was laying waste to my plum tree. Had a hard time getting him to leave. They can really make the chips fly!

Great pics! I often see and hear these gorgeous birds but have yet to get close enough to get a good picture.

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Thursday, April 18, 2013 - 12:19 pm:

Shirley & Jaby, that's what I meant as well. I have seen them from a distance, but today's pictures gives me the chance to see them best.

FJL, can you give us the dates/years of the previous pictures these birds have been featured on PastyCam? I would like to see those pictures also!

The second photo looks like he's wearing a Stormy Kromer cap.;-}

I found the peak of a woodpecker under my maple tree. I assume one of the hawks in my area had lunch.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Thursday, April 18, 2013 - 07:57 pm:

Thanks, Jbuck! I love bird watching, no matter where it is!!

Why is there no food or suet in these feeders? Hmmm. I have to fill mine sometimes twice a day. The suet blocks sometimes only last 3 days. Have seen a few robins lately and tonight two Sand Hill Cranes flew so low over the garage I could almost reach up and touch them.

Deb, you and your mom are in my thoughts.
