When it comes to talent, the U.P. has its share of both the natural, as in Mother Nature and the man-made, as in the photographers we feature on a daily basis, some professional, others just pushing the shutter button as a hobby and coming up with beautiful art. That's what we have in the mix here today, starting with the opening shot from Mike Schneider with the perfect Yooper leaf he found while photographing leaves in his backyard. That's almost an exact replica of the U.P.... how neat is that?

The next two photos are where the human creativity come into play. Brenda Leigh told me that she has several mirrors placed around their property underneath the trees, so she decided to play around with them, showcasing one of her pumpkins and the autumn leaves. Great idea for getting double the pleasure and double the view, too. I can't decide which is my favorite, the one that you can barely tell the mirror is there or the one with the burst of sky and colors amongst the dying grass. I guess that's why I included them both.

Mother Nature was the creative one in the next photo and Laurie Bashaw did the honors of capturing it. Laurie found this bright yellow leaf that just seemed suspended in mid-air, so she snapped this shot to share the phenomenon with us all. You can't really see it in her photo, but a busy spider had spun a string for his web and that is what captured the leaf in the air. The focus on this shot is wonderful, too, showing off the leaf, yet giving us a hint of all the color on the ground and still hanging in the trees.

Finishing off our Autumn nature study, are several photographs that Krista Poirier took while outdoors with the fall colors. She captured the sunshine playing off the leaves, close-up and then turned her camera towards the sky to catch the fall hue against the bluer than blue sky.

Amazing... that's what all of these photos combined together brings to mind for me.
I think this quote says it best: "Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower." ~ Albert Camus

Beautiful pictures from all of you photogs!
Well, Brenda, I suppose that's one way to increase the number of pumpkins and leaves. Clever idea! :)

I love these photos! "Suspended" is the kind of thing I try
but haven't achieved yet. We're still in the UP for another
week, so I've got time to get more great shots.

Can you believe the colors the leaves turn to.In the first picture a shark.

By Eugene Zuverink (Zube) on Monday, October 8, 2012 - 10:05 am:

The first picture also looks like the UP cut out of that leaf where it came from.

By Eugene Zuverink (Zube) on Monday, October 8, 2012 - 10:10 am:

Oh slow me, I didn't even read what Mary wrote in the first paragraph. "The UP"

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Monday, October 8, 2012 - 01:45 pm:

That leaf is uncanny...preserve it and save it.

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Monday, October 8, 2012 - 02:57 pm:

All these photos are beautiful, and the 1st photo is unique! And since there are a lot of maple leaves in these pictures, I would like to wish all the Canadian Pasty fans a Happy Canada Thanksgiving to the Dominion of Canada.

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Monday, October 8, 2012 - 03:16 pm:

I second that, Thomas.
