Joe Kirkish recently took three grad students from India on a last tour of the Copper Country, before they head back to their native country. He took them out to White City/Jacobsville, where they walked out on the breakwall, to the lighthouse and had some fun leaping for the camera, too.

Joe said the students were delighted when the Alder came along and that it seemed at first, like it was floating on land. The guys were thrilled to be so close to the boat and then to watch it setting the buoy markers at the end of Portage Lake.

From there they made their way north and ended up at Esrey Park to watch the sun go down and soak up all they could of the experience, since the Keweenaw is quite different than the huge country of India, where they come from. It's refreshing to be reminded of the beauty surrounding us, that we often take for granted.

Good luck to these grad students as they leave for home, hope you enjoyed your time here in the U.P.

What totally awesome pictures to start the week off. That first picture brings back so many memories of sitting on that particular beach. Love it there!! And of course, Esrey is a must stop every time we're there! Can't pass it up. The scenery there is spectacular!!

Thanks for the great pictures!

What wonderful pics, Joe, and what super memories
these students will bring back to India of our
beautiful Keweenaw.
Kudos!

On this day we lost a very special lady. Carole Krueger, she loved the UP and would talk about her roots in Cooper Harbor where her grandparents lived. Carole your Pasty, John Dee and Facebook family will miss you dearly. You will always hold a special place in my heart Mama Cita :)

I'm glad these young people got to experience what
us yoopers have always known, the beauty of the land
, the vast history, and the friendly people who
reside there. Even though I've been a "Troll" since
1965, my heart lies in the U.P. I read on line where
someone wrote he was born/raised downriver of
Detroit, he retired and moved to the U.P and said it
was the best decision he ever made. I totally agree
and hopefully someday, my hubby and I can retire up
in Gods Country too :)
