With the last days of August upon us here in the Keweenaw, the vacation fun days are quickly coming to an end. Days of carefree splashing in the water like this youngster, captured by Joyce Tormala, are numbered. While, searching for worms and fishing off the dock will be relegated to mostly weekend events as summer draws to a close. The little guy in the second shot, snapped by Frank and Tina Anderson seems to be checking out his selection of bait. Or maybe his thoughts are that he already has a fine catch on the end of his line. It's been a great summer for these activities, but now it's time to prepare for autumn's fun times, with all it holds in store for us. And of course for the impending start of school, which is just around the corner!

Hope it's still warm enough to be able to splash in the water, too, when I'm UP there next week!

I'll be there in 4 days - can hardly wait. If it's 70 degrees, I'll be getting wet.
Finnish = slush for blood! ;-)

Every year my barber spends two weeks fishing and messing
around east of Wawa around Labor Day, and then he comes
back with all these wonderful stories about how great the North
Woods are this time of year> So who can tell me what the
weather forecast is for the U.P.'s Banana Belt (around Esky) this
weekend? My wife's class is having a class reunion, and we're
going! My mother-in-law will say bring sweaters and coats, but
she said that when we were there a month ago, too, and it was
hot then. So I am looking for better info.

I got my kids to get their feet wet last week up there but not much else. They wanted to stay at a hotel with an indoor pool instead of the tent at a park.
Maybe next year...

What sweet pictures.
Jack K, sorry to hear that your kids don't like camping...perhaps next year, eh. One of my friends and her hubby took their teenage children tent camping for the very first time this year. Now these are kids that have traveled all over the states, and have stayed in the best of hotels...because my friend works for an airline.
My friend said that they were unsure of how the teenagers would react to a week in the wilds of northern Michigan...without the comforts of a hotel.
Along with their fishing poles and swimsuits, she packed a tv set...a dvd player...and plenty of movies...just in case, they got 'bored'. She said the kids were up at the crack of dawn each day...either fishing...or at the beach...or out boating. Never once did the kids break out the tv...or a video game...or even their cell phones.
Their favorite activites that the teenagers thought were so cool? Of course the campfire at night...along with using a flash light to cast hand figures on the tent at night.
So hopefully your kiddies will soon catch onto the idea of camping too.

I'd rather be out there with the kids than in here in the school classroom with this bunch.
