Long-time Pasty Cammist Peggy Riemer checks in with today's view:

The goose and I were standing near the south end of the big bridge. The foggy rainy weather made it seem hardly worth taking a second look across the water, but I should have known that the UP always has the magic. This goose seems to know it too.
If you've been following the daily Pasty Cam over the past 7 years, you've seen some memorable U.P. photos from Peg and her daughter Rose, including other family members:
Emily and Axel
Thanks, Peggy, for another cool memory from the Straits.

We gave your weekday hostess Mary Drew a head-start on the weekend, to get ready for Pasty Fest tomorrow in Calumet. Mary has been named to the panel of judges in the pasty Bake-off competition. Can you imagine tasting all of those pasties and having to choose a favorite? It's a grueling job, but somebody has to do it. Mary, you lucky duck.

Everybody has left for the fourth already?
Great pics, first time I wished I were a goose.
Safe holidays all! Esp. our military service people.

Hi
We're working summer hours here--9 hr days Monday through Thursday, then a half day on Fridays--so my weekend starts at noon. The car is packed and I am so READY to head north! Not up to the Keweenaw, though, no farther than the Straits area. Everyone have a good holiday.

By Carole on Friday, July 1, 2005 - 07:57 am:

We were at this spot on Monday evening watching the traffic head north after coming from Eagle Harbor that morning. Oh I wish I was there and not sitting at work typing this!!!!

By Bob on Friday, July 1, 2005 - 08:02 am:

Now that is a cool shot!

Great way to survey your lot in life. Looking forward, not backward. Pasty-festers: live long and hard.

Beautiful pic...the Mighty Mac looks welcoming and is a beautiful sight for sore eyes in any type of weather. ;)
Hope everyone has a safe and wonderful Fourth of July weekend. And for those of you fortunate enough to be heading to the Pasty Fest, enjoy :)

Good morning --

Great shot of the goose & bridge! Wish I was there or farther north.

Does anyone know what happened to the web cam in Mackinaw City that provided a similar view of the bridge from a more easterly perspective? I think it was maintained by CoreComm and might have had some connection to one of the ferry services. I really miss that view.

Travel safely over the weekend, everyone.

Time for a U.P. fix.........

By Kari a troll on Friday, July 1, 2005 - 09:17 am:

Good morning,
How the bug situation right now.
I'll be up there in 2 weeks, just need to know if I'll be needing the DEET and mosquito netting..

Counting down the days. Will be in Copper Harbor on the 23rd and cannot wait.

I don't care if it rains every day I'm there. It will still be better that a sunny day anywhere else.

By PRM--DE on Friday, July 1, 2005 - 10:28 am:

Is the goose the welcoming committee for the 300 geese the government has captured in Lower MI and bringing up to Baraga for the 'enjoyment' on the lawns of the Upper MI natives?

By UP dreamer stuck in NJ on Friday, July 1, 2005 - 10:30 am:

One week from today I'll be waking up in Grand Marais, and a few days later, Copper Harbor, then on to Mackinac...I can't wait!

By Charlotte, Mishawaka on Friday, July 1, 2005 - 10:41 am:

The picture is peaceful looking and I can't wait until I see the bridge on July 14th. Won't be going to the Keweenaw but will be spending time in the eastern part of the UP. Staying a few days on Whitefish Bay.

By MPM.....the hill on Friday, July 1, 2005 - 10:44 am:

Someone needs to explain to the DNR that we do not want Lower Michigan problems in the UP....Hey! Spending money bringing them up here is a big waste of funds. If they turn out to be a problem up here they will end up on some Yoppers table when hunting season comes around.

By michigander on Friday, July 1, 2005 - 10:54 am:

But it's ok for Michigan funds to be spent on the up for things like road improvements, bridge cards, ssdi, schools, prisons, etc.
Could the up support itself with out lower Michigan funds?

By julwisc on Friday, July 1, 2005 - 11:14 am:

3 weeks from tonight, we'll be in Copper Harbor!

By Misplaced Michigander, NJ on Friday, July 1, 2005 - 11:46 am:

Good morning. I'm with Kari the troll - how does the black fly/mosquito situation look so far? Also the deer flies! We've already stocked up on Deep Woods Off for our trip to Grand Marais next week. Can't wait to breathe that fresh, clean air.

By Janie, IA. on Friday, July 1, 2005 - 11:47 am:

I have that photo...minus the goose and fog! Pretty country!

I’m taking time today to remember those of us who are still alive.
You know who you are, live long and prosper!

Like the title today... Longing to be in the U.P.
In just over a week, Capt. Paul and I will be in Houghton and will be spending five wonderful weeks up there. And then it's off to my new job as associate professor of geology at a college in Texas!

By Missin the UP from NJ on Friday, July 1, 2005 - 02:01 pm:

Whoda thought a Goose would be a sight seer!! But then look at what she's got to look at! Great picture.

By Yooper, MI on Friday, July 1, 2005 - 04:57 pm:

Kari... you will definitely need the DEET and mosquito netting! The biting flies are bad on the beach whenever the winds are from the east for some reason. Was at Agate Beach a few days ago and the flies were unbearable. Have a great holiday weekend everyone.

By Bill and Roxanne Jacobs on Saturday, July 2, 2005 - 05:40 pm:

A GREAT photo. I should like to add the title: Michigander!

By FRNash/PHX, AZ on Saturday, July 2, 2005 - 05:52 pm:

Perhaps that Michigander in today's photo is looking for his Michigoose? <Groan!>

By sur5er on Saturday, July 2, 2005 - 06:35 pm:

FRNash/PHX, AZ, Tee hee...tee hee. Honk if you are a Michigander. :-)
