Brenda Leigh was out riding her bike one morning in Menominee, when she spotted these three guys grazing in the field. So, she stopped to find out more about them and ask if she could take a few photographs. The lady who owns these beautiful Alpacas had just sheared them and told Brenda she was going to try to her hand at "carding" the wool-like fiber and knitting with it. From what Brenda said, their hair is very valuable, so not only is it more comfy on the hot summer days for the Alpacas to get their haircuts, it's also profitable too. They sure are cute in a different sort of way... they remind me of llama's, only smaller. Look at that cute face in the last photo, he looks like he wants to give out a big old kiss, pucker UP! ;->

If you'd like to see what they look like with hair and get more information about them, check out these links: Alpaca Owners and Breeders Association and Alpaca.com.

I think these guys are cute! The brown one looks like the ham eating Tina from the movie Napoleon Dynamite!

GREAT pics Brenda!!!

I have a friend with an alpaca ranch here in Baraga. Website: http://www.keweenawalpacas.com/

I cannot tell you how phenomenal the product is..it's warm, hypoallergenic (anyone can wear the stuff...no allergy issues), it'll wick water away..it's simply a SUPERIOR product!! Everyone U.P. here should at least have socks in our winters!!!

The babies are due soon...I'm going out to visit when they arrive! Can't wait!

Oh...and during the Superbowl...I emailed my buddy and told him "Go Pacas" hahahaha.

Cute! These three are two of a kind if ever I saw one :)

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 - 08:43 am:

Love your pictures, Brenda, thank you! Alpaca is supposed to be very warm in the winter, according to some knitters that I know. In fact, some people won't knit with it because it is too warm.

Hi
With the haircut, the white one looks like a mutant lamb in the first picture.

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 - 10:15 am:

They are so darn cute! I'm going to have to see if I can find the Baraga ranch, Donna, when I am up in a couple days for the Aura Jamboree. Hope to see you all there! If you're on Facebook everyone, search Aura Jamboree and become a friend. I'm trying to get 700 friends before the weekend and I'm almost there! As I typed this, I just realized I think I've seen that ranch in Baraga.

Marianne...Alpaca wool is extremely warm and comfortable on those cold winter nights...so long as you keep their nails clipped. :)
