Wow Capt. even you folks are getting it. Just announced a bad 2-semi, 1 car fatality near Quad Cities. Just the begining. The visibility should go from 7-8 miles down to 1/2 mile this afternoon. The wind is bad already with the 1-2" from overnight. Dread the thought of expected 12" to 18" from this afternoon to Wed. afternoon. Every one stay home if possible and God bless if you really have to go.

We are given the ability to talk about what is absent, to use the imaginary in order to control reality.
This longing for GROUNDHOG DAY,
the desire for transcendence, is a peculiarly human trait.
Tomorrow!

It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood, a beautiful day in the neighborhood. ;O)

By Dunerat (Dunerat) on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 - 10:22 am:

Hey Capt. Paul -- with that kind of temperature drop in a half hour, how are you dodging all the tornados? Usually that kind of temp delta means there's too much antimatter in the neighborhood. Hold onto your hat, buddy, and we'll send you a postcard from the blizzard up here.

We've had two days of east wind already, a sure sign some big weather is gonna pay us a visit. Got the generator fired up and gassed up last night, laid in some extra petrol. It's gonna be a wild ride on the dune when the wind comes around to the north.

Be safe everyone!

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 - 12:18 pm:

Actually, we had no reports of tornados; just strong winds and some small hail in the northern suburbs. We've heard from our west Texas offices and they are all closed for the day because they are in a full-scale blizzard!! They keep saying snow and sleet for here Thursday night into Friday, so it looks as though I'll be staying home a couple days.....

Just for giggles; here are some more numbers from a station near our house that recorded the front as it blew over:

Time Temp Dewpoint
6:1967.0 °F64.0 °F
6:2961.0 °F50.0 °F
6:3744.0 °F40.0 °F
6:4741.0 °F39.0 °F
7:1040.0 °F38.0 °F
7:3739.0 °F37.0 °F

Well our blizzard has commensed. Winds gusting between 20 and 45 mph. It all started about 1 PM and it's drifting between our one story buildings already almost 4 PM our time. Mostly a white-out from my east facing living room window. Whooeeee this is going to be a dilly!!!

Capt. Paul, hope you have your AC on.

By jbuck (Jbuck) on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 - 05:32 pm:

Have been putting my Silver Bear Yooper Scooper thru it's paces today! And the snow just keeps on coming.

Will the blizzard live up to 'the press'? Guess we'll just wait and see! Just so the power stays on, it won't be a problem!

Capt Paul, glad there wasn't a tornado with that kind of a temperature drop!

Be careful out there friends!
