It has turned cool with some much needed rain overnight across the U.P. But when it's hot here UP North, it's not just the people who go for a swim to cool off, the animals do, too. Jodi Wilder-Corrigan captured these photos of her daughter Brooke and Boots, her horse, during our heat wave last week. She said that Boots is miserable in the heat, so Brooke often takes him out in the lake to wet him down and make him more comfortable. If you look closely at the last two shots, you can see that Brooke is splashing water onto Boots' back and then in that last photo, Boots seems to be getting playful, maybe trying to nudge Brooke or give her a kiss for helping him to cool off a bit.

Nice. How about a lake at work - that would be something. Take a dip at lunch break.

Well, Lake Superior must be warm enough now, or is that an inland lake?

The floating bouy 60 miles n/ne of Hancock has a water temp reading of 38.3 this morning, while the bouy north of Marquette has a reading of 39.4.

This is why I grew up, and still growing up, with horses. They make wonderful friends!

You're lucky, Janie T. (Bobbysgirl), I've always wanted a horse but my husband made a rule that I couldn't bring 'him' or 'her' into the house.....so I settled for a cat.;>

The only thing my sweetie ever, flat out, said, NO, to me about, was a toilet for a flower planter. I had to go along with it because he has never said, no to me about anything else since we met 11 yrs. ago. He is a good guy. ;O)

These pictures are sooooooooooooooooo wonderful!!! This is how people are supposed to treat their animals. We take care of them, they take care of us...it's such a wonderful thing!

And then there are those critters that some folks neglect and abuse, and yes....some horses do fall into that category as well...and thank GOD for the animal rescue folks that go in and take care of these things....so...PLEASE VOTE in the ANIMAL RESCUE contest. Show your love!

I too grew up in the UP with horses and have the greatest memories. This reminded me especially of a close friend who also had a horse and the times we would take them riding/swimming in Lake Superior. Sadly Sally has passed away but it's so wonderful to see new generations carrying on the same fun times in the UP eh!
