Charlie at Pasty Central (Chopper) on Thursday, January 7, 2010 - 06:21 am:

In which 3 years on this day was the Pasty Cam traveling on US-41?

By Bruce (Bessemerbj) on Thursday, January 7, 2010 - 06:25 am:

2002 and 2005
First Post
The question was first published with a "2" and moments later changed to "3", realizing the snow thermometer (2003) is also on US-41. Bruce added the third year below, before this correction appeared.

You were trying to trick us Charlie! You originally asked for 2 years???

Actually, the snow thermometer shot tricked Charlie.

By RD, Iowa (Rdiowa) on Thursday, January 7, 2010 - 06:38 am:

Careful not to overload the pasty web server. Do I smell smoke?

By Pat & Glenda (Gormfrog) on Thursday, January 7, 2010 - 06:39 am:

Nothing keeps a person's feet on the ground like having a little responsibility put on his shoulders.
Hope this is still fun Charlie, like it is for us!

Still fun... after all these years :o)

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Thursday, January 7, 2010 - 07:35 am:

UP weather forecast for the Lansing area today and tomorrow. Winter storm warning from noon today until 4:00 am Friday, with up to 6" of the white stuff. We'll see. Weather forecasters: the only profession where you get paid for lying.

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Thursday, January 7, 2010 - 07:59 am:

Cindy...here's hoping they (forecasters) are wrong. It is supposed to get worse the further south you go, so I gassed up my snow thrower just in case. All-in-all, it has not been a terrible winter so far. I am sure that the UP'rs are reading this and thinking "6-inches...Big Deal." :)

By Dale Beitz (Dbeitz) on Thursday, January 7, 2010 - 08:52 am:

I would argue that in addition to weather forecasters, financial forecasters and lawyers would be near the top of the heap of those who get paid for lying.

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Thursday, January 7, 2010 - 09:09 am:

I'd like to add politicians to that lying list.

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Thursday, January 7, 2010 - 10:35 am:

Maybe the politicians are the ones who couldn't cut it as meteorologists? Nice day here but they closed school near my Moms in TN since it might snow.

By Daveofmohawk (Daveofmohawk) on Thursday, January 7, 2010 - 11:17 am:

Weather forecasting anywhere in the Great Lakes Region is very difficult to say the least; only about 65% accuracy. Areas such as some of the southwestern states are 95% and even higher, that's all they have to say is clear and sunny and they're going to be right 95% of the time. We should all walk a mile in someone's shoes before being so anxious to criticize them.

By Donna (Donna) on Thursday, January 7, 2010 - 12:35 pm:

Well...if you REALLY want to count US-41, the pic from 2009 that I took was there as well! Right on 41!!

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Thursday, January 7, 2010 - 02:37 pm:

Wintry beauty.

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Thursday, January 7, 2010 - 03:46 pm:

Thank you for the humorous thread here, starting with Cindy! I needed a good chuckle this afternoon. I agree, they have not been very accurate, especially this year. Brooke's was pretty funny, too. :-)

We are now supposed to get 2 to 4 inches here in mid-Michigan, up significantly from what they said earlier today.

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Thursday, January 7, 2010 - 04:06 pm:

I seem to remember today being a holiday of sorts.....

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Thursday, January 7, 2010 - 06:33 pm:

Yes, it is a national holiday today. IT'S THE CAPT'S BIRTHDAY. Happy Birthday Capt!!

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Thursday, January 7, 2010 - 06:34 pm:

Oh, and tomorrow would be that other famous guy, er, Elvis' 75th birthday.

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Thursday, January 7, 2010 - 08:49 pm:

Happy birthday Capt. Hope you get a lot of cake and ice cream today.

By kay Moore (Mskatie) on Thursday, January 7, 2010 - 09:49 pm:

Happy birthday Cap't. We share this day then. My one daughter-in-law shares today with me too. My son Andy can't forget either one of us's birthday without being in the doghouse. :O>)

By Russell E. Emmons (Russemmons) on Friday, January 8, 2010 - 01:18 am:

I agree with DaveofMohawk! Weather forecasters by & large do well. Can't really say they lie but they often are incorrect. There is a difference. People just don't want to hear the forecasts at times. It does seem that many times when the forecast is for what is unpleasant or unwanted it is accurate, when beautiful weather is forecast, often incorrect.

I tend to go along about the politicians, lawyers lying including now in recent years even some scientists!
