Detour Harbor is located on one of the other Great Lakes that surround the U.P., namely Lake Huron. While Brenda Leigh was visiting there with friends recently, they discovered an interesting wood carving right across from the harbor. He's titled The Passage Keeper" and the story behind his existence goes like this: Somehow the huge tree there, became damaged and someone offered to carve the "Old Man of the Sea" out of it." Brenda says it is quite spectacular to look at and you can see from her last two photos, the view of the passage he keeps isn't too bad either. :->

We like Detour, its fun to see all the boats coming through and they are so close.

I love the Detour area...my sister lives in Detour, and I've spent a lot of time there! Super picture, Brenda, thanks!

By Nancy DeGuire (Nancyd) on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 - 06:13 pm:

I am so glad something good is happening for Ontonagen. I voted faithfully! I am also glad the 2nd place winner is getting new playground money also. So many towns are deserving of something positive. Hooray for all the yoopers who helped make this happen. It shows what wonderful people they are - whether they live in the U.P. still, or not.

By Mike (Upboundeh) on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 - 06:37 pm:

The last picture looks like a good place to relax and eat lunch and do some wave watching.

Thanks Donna for the reminders!
Way 2 Go Ontonagon!

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 - 06:38 pm:

Three cheers for Ontonagon!! Woo hoo! Of course, they won't be able to build anything until the spring when it thaws out up there. Thank you Donna for keeping up voting!

By Charlotte, Mishawaka, IN (Charlotte61) on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 - 07:01 pm:

Donna, thanks for reminding us to vote. Not all the votes were from Yoopers. Some were from wanabes--that would be me. Glad I could do something to help Ontonagon. In Sept. 2008 we spent time there and really enjoyed ourselves.

By kay Moore (Mskatie) on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 - 08:55 pm:

Yoopers or wannabes, Ontonogon deserves to win. Really liked that town when my folks lived in White Pine. Another place I've always wanted to see was Detour/Drummond Island. Maybe some day.

By Cindy, New Baltimore, MI (Cindy) on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 - 09:46 pm:

This "wannabe" also voted several times for Ontonogon. Congratulations! I'm excited for you.

By Antonio Rodolfo Dias (Rodolfo) on Wednesday, December 9, 2009 - 11:23 am:
