Which year did we use for starting today's Pasty Central Day in History?

Today's date 2009, but it was about 1864.
I'm wondering if this is a trick question, so had to add both....:-)

But I think 1864 is my final answer.

Sorry for the REALLY ambiguous Early Bird question. Actually, the question was intended to ask about which year's picture from the decade review was used to start Day in History (the beginning picture in the slideshow). The correct answer to that is 2008

The colors look fantastic in today's photos. Are the leaves that nice now and should I be planning a weekend getaway soon?

I did find a Michigan fall color report website that is usually updated once a week and has personal viewer comments at the bottom, but according to it, the colors are not peaking yet.

Wonderful, especially Autumn Drive + Mandy.

And here's the Midwest Foliage Report, which updates twice a week, on Wednesday and Saturday.
I've found it quite accurate in past years, for the Copper Country, at least.

The first phrase that came to mind of the driftwood..." skeletal remains"! And what a perfect portrait of Mandy, great framing!

Those colored leaf photos have me all fired up about my trip to the U.P. next week! Every time I come up for a "leaf tour" I find myself checking all the websites to follow along the progress of the leaf colors. I'm usually either thinking SLOW DOWN! or HURRY UP! It seems the only way to see the entire peak is to stay up there for a month! Last year everything was pretty much green along the Presque Isle river in the Porkies yet the Lake of the Clouds valley was in full color!
