Which years' scenes in our Decade Review feature snow sculptures at Winter Carnival?

Congrats Theresa. Between the wind during the night and the 45° temps, we have lost a lot of snow all ready. The forecast calls for maybe 50° today and wind gusts up to 50 MPH!

Winter in the Keweenaw. Quite beautiful.

Good afternoon from Mishawaka IN. Beautiful pictures, today, of the Keweenaw. Two days ago I had at least 6" of snow in my backyard, now I've got about 2". It's suppose to get close to 50° today. The sun is out but it is windy. Have a good weekend everyone.

There are some really cool pictures today. :-)

It's 46° here, with 30 mph winds here in mid-Michigan now. But, speaking of 50° temps, can you imagine people out ice fishing in that today? I have to shake my head at the 300-500 people who are currently stranded in Lake Erie, near Toledo. Apparently, they had the brilliant idea to go out fishing on a warm day like today. Not very bright, in the least. And, the US Coast Guard & local law enforcement, et al, are trying to figure out how on earth they are supposed to rescue that many people, for Heaven's sake!!! The crazy ones should all be fined, and the fines used to partially offset the costs of their rescues. Sorry, but that's our tax dollars at work today, folks!

I know some people here either lost pets or had pets become very sick with the tainted pet food from China a couple of years ago, so I want to pass along this warning from the Michigan Veterinary Medical Association on tainted (with peanut butter) pet foods, treats, etc:

If you have any of the potentially tainted products, please toss them, for your pets' sakes!

You are right, Marianne. They should definitely be fined. I heard earlier that one of these idiots said there were cracks in the ice, but they just put boards over them so they could get out further on the ice. Duh!

By mickill mouse (Ram4) on Saturday, February 7, 2009 - 04:19 pm:

What is so sad and/or stupid, is that they said, they knew, there were cracks in the ice to begin with, but, a ferry came through and that is when the ice broke up. To me in my opnion, at a certain temperature you SHOULD NOT go out there. We took a ride to Port Huron this morning and there were so many shanties, suv's and trucks out on the ice. That was by Algonac, Mi. Then as we got to the crossing to Harsens Island it was completely clear of ice all the way to Port Huron. Was a nice ride. ;O)

They should pay for their rescue. How stupid is it to put boards across the cracks in the ice? I do not think that requires a response or answer, because there isn't one.

It is 48 degrees here. ;O)
