Strawberry

Sorry, BJ, another heartbreaker photo finish for the Early Bird. There's always tomorrow.

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Friday, August 15, 2008 - 07:29 am:

Actually, there are many berries that aren't on today's PastyCam: strawberry, lingonberry, cranberry, gooseberry, thimbleberry, currants, mulberry, and the ever popular dingleberry!!

Would any of these been accepted as well?? ;-)

By BJmilford (Bjmilford) on Friday, August 15, 2008 - 07:30 am:

Like an old car rental commercial.....#2 but we'll try harder. :-)

By Gary Hookway (Ghookway) on Friday, August 15, 2008 - 07:48 am:

It's going to be a great day, my very first "early bird" and I get my new dog today too !

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Friday, August 15, 2008 - 07:50 am:

Good morning! And how about sugar plums? Mr. Deb picked a bunch of them while UP there. They are so good.

How 'bout those USA girls in gymnastics on the Olympics last night? I was getting pretty frustrated because they seemed to be getting undeservedly low marks, but they pulled it out in the end while doing nearly perfect routines which couldn't get marked low or I think there would have been an outcry. Great night of Olympics for the Americans, but I sure wish it ended earlier.

Ladies and Gentlemen...start your engines. The Cruise is about to begin. See ya on the avenue.

By Uncle Chuck @ Little Betsy (Unclechuck) on Friday, August 15, 2008 - 11:14 am:

Gary- what kind of dog?

Alex- the cruise actually started earlier this week.

By Bob Gilreath (Bobg) on Friday, August 15, 2008 - 12:59 pm:

LOL Gary for 99.99999% of people playing the lottery
will take you longer to get to the UP.

Lotteries are a TAX on people who are BAD at math ;-)

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Friday, August 15, 2008 - 02:36 pm:

Uncle Chuck...your right, there has been a lot of classic car activity in the area this week, but the official dream cruise is on Saturday, from 9:00am to 9:00pm. If your there, I will be cruising on a white Honda Goldwing (see profile). If you see it, say hello!

We have all seen some great pictures of local deer "visitors" around da UP, but nothing quite like this!

If true, this one takes the cake (just received via email from a usually reliable source):

Quote:

"But Mom! it followed me HOME!"
Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?

A fawn followed this beagle home -- right through the doggie door -- in the Bittinger, MD area. The owner came home to find the visitor had made himself right at home.

(Yes, I checked it out at snopes.com, and found nothing there about it.)

The above photo is so cute. The fawn looks so trusting by the dog. Yet- it is worth noting that at least here in Michigan, the DNR has licensed rehab facilities in which abandoned fawns and other injured or abandoned critters can get the care they need while not being exposed to a lot of human [or canine lol contact].That way when the critter is recovered or has matured enough and can return to the wild, it will not become a victim of a hunter or dog etc. just because it got to trust them.

By Gary Hookway (Ghookway) on Friday, August 15, 2008 - 11:05 pm:

UncleChuck, my new dog is a slightly less than 1 year old bluetick coonhound. I found him at the county shelter in Kalamazoo. Primarily, he needs lots of love and even more food, he'll get lots of both from my wife and I ! His name is Puck (Go Wings) and to top it off I think he's interested in my boat.

Bobg, still $1 to make a lifelong wish come true....not impossible odds. lol
