Leave it to E. Neil Harri to come up with something great to start off the month of June. With these two shots, he brings us over and above the Huron Islands that are located in Lake Superior, east of L'Anse, in the Skanee area. First we do a fly-over that gives us a view back toward the mainland, then Neil gets in closer for a better look at the Huron Island Lighthouse, with the fog signal building just in the upper corner of the photo too. This sure looks like a good place to "get away from civilization" for awhile. I wonder if Neil could drop me off there sometime? :->

Beautiful ! Any wildlife on the island ?? squirrels ?? Looks close enough to shore that something might make it over ...

Great shots for the beginning of the week.

Take me with you Mary when Neil drops you off there. What a beautiful, rugged place just standing there defying everything the Big Lake dishes out.

The islands are a bird sanctuary. There are a couple eagle nests on them.

What great shots, and what a fun place to explore. Sorry Mary, but I don't think you'd get much solitude there because I think we'd all want to come with you.

Beautiful shots again, as always. Those Huron Islands seem to be a popular theme to the PastyCam:

Excellent fishing off those islands as well, so long as the Lake stays nice and calm like in these photos......

Just take the road out to the mouth of the Huron for a good view of the islands. You'll also see lots of people primitive camping out there along a beautiful sandy beach. Maybe I shouldn't have mentioned it?

I’m sure Neil would drop you off Mary, but it looks like you would have to parachute in.

Neil…I was wondering if you have ever been to the Oakland/Troy Airport in Troy, Michigan…I work nearby.

Those pictures are perfect, the lake was so calm yesterday I just sat in a chair on the beach for a while it was a nice day.

Oh my! Those are beautiful pictures! It makes me long to be there. How far out are the islands from the main land? Anyone know? I wonder if you could kayak to them.

By E. Neil Harri (Ilmayksi) on Monday, June 2, 2008 - 06:57 pm:

That can be a pretty rough channel for a kayak. I wouldn't do it unless weather was perfect. It is about 5 miles.
