Good morning! Where did the weekend go yet again? Hope you all have a nice day today. They're hinting at 70 here. I can handle that!!

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Monday, May 5, 2008 - 08:07 am:

Monday morning! In for a perfect spring day today! Temp. up to 75, blue skies and sunny all day long!

By David Hiltunen (Davidcorrytontn) on Monday, May 5, 2008 - 09:54 am:

Good Morning everyone! I love Monday after a good hardy weekend. Those of you with temps in the 70's please be careful of heat stroke now. I have a good tan going for over a month now, it really never fades. Anyone mow their lawn in CC yet?

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Monday, May 5, 2008 - 10:22 am:

Lawn has been found but not needed to be mowed, David has probably put some miles on his already down there is Tennessee. It is nice and sunny this morning though.

With the black-fly season threatening,I wonder if anyone knows of a good way to escape being bitten. How long does the season usually last? My husband would be most grateful for an answer to the first question since the insects really seem to like him!

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Monday, May 5, 2008 - 03:46 pm:

I have heard that taking a B complex vitamin is helpful against the little critters. Or I've also heard that taking Brewer's Yeast is effective.

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Monday, May 5, 2008 - 05:25 pm:

I think sitting in the Loading Zone would be more effective in avoiding the black flies.

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Monday, May 5, 2008 - 05:50 pm:

LOL, Mikie--great answer. Speaking of the Loading Zone, my husband and two sons enjoyed lunch there on Friday, while I was next door at the yarn store, finding beautiful yarns, etc. I wish that store were much closer to home!

Avoiding black flies was discussed as a topic some last year on this board. It should pop up with a search. There were a couple of links to universities with some answers. :-) And, last summer, I saw a netting that goes over your head, I think at the General Store in Copper Harbor. :-)

By Snowman (Snowman) on Monday, May 5, 2008 - 06:23 pm:

Gotta smother yourself in bear grease to avoid the black-flies. One catch, you wind up sliding off the toilet seat.

By David Hiltunen (Davidcorrytontn) on Monday, May 5, 2008 - 08:53 pm:

Garlic garlic and more garlic, eat a lot of it, fly's won't come near you. Of course neither will anyone else. Mikie has the best idea however, but then you have Bar Flys.

By Richard Wieber (Dickingrayling) on Monday, May 5, 2008 - 10:37 pm:

Recently I was told that you could chase away flying pests by spraying Listerine on and around your person. Haven't tried it yet (there are no pests yet here in southern Alabama) but I know that won't be the case in Grayling by the time I get there. Try the Listerine--good for scrapes and cuts, too.
