The shot from 1998 was quite a contrast, with temps in the upper 70's and high snowbanks still present.

I would be happier if I was IN that picture with the cat stretching in the sun...if only...sigh...

Good to see the 'lakers' out on the Big Pond again. One small correction to today's "What's UP?". Split Rock, while located in Iron County, is not near Amasa. It is situated 2-3 miles south of Crystal Falls on US 2, at the IC Hwy 424 "T" junction w/US 2.

My cats are out enjoying the sun today too. We've had some really cold days here in Kansas this last week but luckily, no snow.

I finally finished the article on copper and Copper Harbor I've been working on. I hope I did it justice; it is so hard to decide what to focus on. I used one of the chrysocolla pictures I posted previously. And once again, Associated Content changed my title. Anyway, here is the link if you want to read it.

The History of Copper Mining in and Around Copper Harbor, Michigan

Nice photo of Fumee Falls. I was there last year and was suprised to find that the falls are so close to the road.

We have a painting hanging up in our office of the falls dated 1993. The artist's name is V. James B?????? (can't make out the rest of the last name). Does anyone know who this might be?

We are 1/10" short of the previous snowfall record, I think from 1974!

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Monday, April 14, 2008 - 02:11 pm:

It sounds like we need to cheer on a tiny bit more snow, then Marsha--let's break those annual records! (We're very, very close here in mid-Michigan, to breaking the annual record, too!) It can snow enough to break the record, just not stay around, and, no ice, please...Ice should be reserved for cold drinks, now. :-)

Great Pic's today on the slide show Charlie!

Sage, enjoyed your article on the history of copper mining. I give it a big "thumbs up".

By Ned Aldridge (Nedjames) on Monday, April 14, 2008 - 04:31 pm:

As it shows in the pic, the pine tree that made the "Split Rock" near Crystal Falls notable is dead, it died several years ago. However, there is a new pine growing in a different crevice in the rock (doesn't show in the picture)and hopefully it will grow to be the size of the old one. I most likely won't be around long enough to see it happen.........
