I must say it has been a learning experience to assemble "This Day in History", since we started it last month. This week we learned about the Michigan Territory, Einstein's visits to the northwoods, the first parachutist (who rode down on a trapeze bar), 5 cent/pound copper prices in the Depression, Michigan's first helicopter (made in the U.P.!), and when the Copper Country turned to gold. All for only a minute a day.

If you know of any upcoming historical milestone with a unique Upper Michigan connection, we welcome your input. Who knows? Maybe we could start a new award (similar to the Early Bird) for the outstanding Day in History factoid of the week.

Good morning all! We're going to breakfast at a sugar bush, then we are driving over to Sparta to a great grandson's birthday party. Have to hurry back to make our monthly euchre club game at 7:00 PM. tonight. It looks like we are in store for another fine day!

Charlie,

Could you identify the piece of music and CD that it comes from that plays with the What's UP montage each morning? Many mornings I take a deep relaxing breath to that combination of pictures/music. Helps to start the day off on a quiet peaceful note. Thanks..

All of the Cameo music you hear is either in the public domain - like "John's Brown's Body" on a recent "Day in History" - OR music which is licensed to us for production use, known as "buy-out CD's" or "royalty free music". The current music on our Decade in Review each day is from "Tiger Bay" by Simon Wolfe, an accomplished musician from the UK who probably frequents the local West Cornwall Pasty Company franchise :o)

p.s. You will notice that many of the Cameos are sponsored by Keweenaw Video, which has underwritten much of the music we enjoy with this new feature. I would encourage you to discover Keweenaw Video's unique perspective on life in the U.P. and history of the region

I like the zoom effect on the Big Mac photo, Charlie. It feels like your flying toward the Bridge. (Were's my Dramamine?)

Love the eagle photo.

Good Morning, Everyone! Happy Saturday! Great pictures today, especially of the Eagle Harbor Lighthouse and of our favorite two bridges!

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Saturday, March 15, 2008 - 10:29 am:

Love that eagle(s) picture above! It was almost 60 here yesterday, 40 today. Can't complain about that! Think I'll wash windows (on the inside) so I can enjoy the birds outside. Can't believe how the price of black oilers has gone up over the last several months.
