It's good to see the sun here in the Copper Country, it brightens everyone's moods, but more importantly, it helps to melt the piles of snow. Some piles are more dangerous than others as shown here by Susan Hooker, with a picture of a slip-sliding avalanche making it's way off a roof in Tamarack City. Now that's what you call an overhang!

Don't worry though, we still have plenty of ice and snow around, which Susan documented while on a mission at the Hungarian Falls in the same general area. That ice looks pretty thick yet, so it's going to take a number of warmer and sunnier days before those falls are gushing with water again. Wouldn't it be fun to be there watching when the first of the water begins it's descent, melting the ice along the way? Any volunteers?

Cool shots today, Mary. I do remember winters "overhang" when I was home in MI

I'm hoping to get up there again when we're in the area for Memorial weekend. I know they probably won't be at their fastest, but they'll still be moving quite nicely.

That overhanging snow reminds me of back in the day. You didn't dare walk too close to the house.

In the first photo, what a great metaphor of winter slowly letting go of its grip on the neighborhood. Look out below!

I can't believe it is hanging over that far and not breaking. The timing was perfect it probably didn't last long.

Looks like it's taken at least two days to extend that far in the first photo, I think there are two additional bands of icicles on the far edge? Another fun photo from Susan!

Great camera shot of that snow. While at Suomi we had a great sheet of ice and snow slide off the roof of "Old Main" and land on several cars parked by it. What a mess! We've lost the rest of our snow here west of Chicago. The loved Cubbies open up this Monday at Wrigley against the Brewers. As Ernie Banks would say, The Cubs will be great in 2008! World Series or bust!

The first picture reminds me of the week my inlaws were up for a visit when Sarah and I lived in the U.P. in the '70's & '80's. They drove to our house and because it was winter I had to make room for their car. Our driveway was full with our cars so I used the snowblower to cut out a driveway on the other side of the house. As it turns out I made it a little to close to the roof of the house. I put my old Saab 93 there and went to work using the other car. Well it was a warm spring day and the roof had sheet metal along the edges that warmed up enough to allow a large chunk of icy snow to come off the roof. I think you can guess where it landed. Right on the roof of my Saab 93. Flattened, right down to the tops of the seats inside. When I came home my inlaws said, "we thought we heard something strange". Anyway, a friend of mine helped me cut off the roof and the back half of the car and because it was a front wheel drive we mounted a trailer on the back and made a pickup truck out of it. Now that's recycling.

And if you'd known there would be a pastycam in your future you could've taken before and after pictures of your "sob story"!

Every time I come back to this site I expect that snow to have moved farther down the roof....

Marsha,
I think I do have some pictures somewhere but it might take some time to find them. I'll have a look.
James

Hei, Homesick James, that sounds just like what Red Green would do. How much duct tape did you use? Too bad you didn't have a pic of it. :o)

By James Ludos (Homesick) on Thursday, March 27, 2008 - 12:17 am:

Ken,

I know yur gonna laugh but we did use duct tape by golly don't ya know. We had some sharp edges that we was to lazy to file off so we's just took the old duct tape and covered them's up. I'll half's to see if I's can find the photo's.
