I like the guy in the green swim trunks, standing there like he's in the bahamas.

The noise must really be loud!

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Friday, January 25, 2008 - 09:58 am:

Good Morning, Everyone! Congratulations on your Early Bird, Capt Paul. Uncle Chuck, you were just a hair behind for a very close second; that's cool.

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Friday, January 25, 2008 - 10:27 am:

Good Morning, the guy in green is ready to swim quickly out of the water. A warm up this weekend 20's tomoorow and low 30's sunday, an actual heat wave!

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Friday, January 25, 2008 - 10:43 am:

Hey Paul congrats on the early bird. Sky here is blue and cold outside, haven't ventured out yet. House next to me in Berkley put a window in across from my upstairs bedroom window. There wasn't one there before. Now we can look into their bedrooms and they can look in ours. We tend to keep the shades drawn on that side of the house since we are rather shy about streaking, who wants to see old wrinkled and flabby skin? It has been cold and I left the empty garbage can on the street yesterday, some good soul put it where it belongs last night so maybe I will stay inside all day hogging a register with Jimmie the fat white cat. Even when I drank I never would have jumped into freezing water. These kids must be rootie toots.

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Friday, January 25, 2008 - 11:21 am:

Mikie-- What exactly is a rootie toot?

By Tom (Tom) on Friday, January 25, 2008 - 11:32 am:

Rootely toots from Tech institute. That was a reference years ago. 1950s.

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Friday, January 25, 2008 - 12:24 pm:

Yup that was it Tom. Locals didn't like them since they acted like they were superior to the locals. Happens in a lot of towns with colleges or military bases. People don't like strangers stealing the fair maidens of their little villages and then some are jealous of the fact that the maidens go on to live a much fuller life. Or so I think. I stole Precious from the village of Berkley, but they held me and wont let me escape. No matter how long I live here I will still think of Hubbell as home.

By Gail Smith (Gail) on Friday, January 25, 2008 - 01:00 pm:

Hi. I'm a first timer. I thought this might be a good spot to get some thoughts/information on some plans that I have been thinking about. I have been contemplating moving "up north" for awhile now, but, of course, it's a big step. I'm not of the retiring age yet so I would be looking for a job. I'm curious about thoughts on relocating in this dismel economy. Thanks for any input. Gail

Sorry Uncle Chuck, but to quote the great Maxwell Smart, you "missed it by that much!!" ;-)

I don't know for sure if you should have thanked any of us ahead of time, Gail. Unlike the Gale's of the Big Lake, you and others may come down hard on me/ if they/you think I give/gave false info. So let it be known now I am playing Devils advocate...here.

If I was female, and single still my age, 57 soon, Younger a big plus to move U.P. North, and you are looking for work. I know some folks lookin for Sawmill help. Wait do you have a boat? I say no unless you have a profession, and/or some resources.

In 1969 I was 18. I could not wait to get out of Dodge. However, many of us loved the Toot's, in the 1960's. They drove some Kool Cars, many old friends I had then were Toot's, I am glad I got out when I did.

Maybe if from the Hancock/Ripley side of the Lift Bridge and on up the Copper Country could be purchased and made to be preserved as a National Park, like the Island, or like was done in the Smoky's in the 30's.
