Some tasty lemon and lime snowmobiles eight years ago on the Pasty Cam.

Charlie,
Will the ancestors page return?

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Thursday, January 17, 2008 - 07:30 am:

Good Morning, Everyone! We have a chance of snow in our forecast everyday for awhile now. Winter is returning today, with frigid temperatures back this weekend. It is that time of the year. Congratulations on your Early Bird, Trollperson.

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Thursday, January 17, 2008 - 08:01 am:

Sounds like the U.P. business owners that rely on snowmobilers for income are having a good year, as well as the snowmobilers! John Dee's Make A Wish snowmobile charity should be a good turn out!

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Thursday, January 17, 2008 - 08:06 am:

Machines haven't changed much in the past 8 years, looks-wise anyway.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Thursday, January 17, 2008 - 08:10 am:

Good morning everybody. Anybody out here who goes snowmobiling this weekend has got to be nuts. I don't think temps will get out of single digits, and they'll barely make it to above zero. BRRRRR!!!!!

By Theresa R. Brunk (Trb0013) on Thursday, January 17, 2008 - 08:31 am:

Good Morning from Tampa... Rain here today is a welcome sight. Keeps the dust down and makes for a 'slowdown day' to the hectic traffic.
I wanted to express my sincere thoughts and thanks for all the blessing and comments for my Daughter Odette. She Lives in Ohio all alone, and I spoke to her after work yesterday and read all of the comments to her from my computer and she was brightened almost instantly at the thought that God was indeed listening to her pleas for direction. Her voice was lightened and not as heavy with burden... and this I thank everyone for :)

By maija in Commerce Township (Maija) on Thursday, January 17, 2008 - 08:57 am:

Today I saw a small white bird, about the size of a sparrow, fly very fast in front of my house.

Was I seeing things? Are there small white birds in lower Michigan?

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Thursday, January 17, 2008 - 09:06 am:

Possibly a snowball on Red Bull (give's you wings)?

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Thursday, January 17, 2008 - 09:12 am:

Theresa, I'm happy your daughter's burden has been lightened. All you have to do is ask on this site, and everybody listens. What a great place to make friends.

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Thursday, January 17, 2008 - 09:55 am:

It could have been a Snow Bunting you saw, Maija. The are a dusty white with black markings. They come down to the states when the weather turns bitter cold in the arctic. Do you live near open fields?? The buntings like to fly around open fields looking for food.

You are so true DebS!! This is the best site I have found on the internet for making friends without the fear of being barraged by questionable content. And the best part of it, we all believe the UP is the best place on earth!! We should all commend Charlie and the PastyCam crew for putting together a class act (and for putting up with all of us ;-)

By John W Anderson (Wd8rth) on Thursday, January 17, 2008 - 09:56 am:

Hello from snowing Wells. Did anyone else see the three people on the open roof of the builing?? I'm wondering what there are doing??remodeling?? or demolishing?? Stay warn this weekend.

I agree with everyone regarding this site. Mary and Charlie are the mainstays and keep things so interesting.
Theresa, it reads that perhaps your daughter is depressed. Please get her some prof help. I suffer from depression since my accident whereby I broke my back. I have good doctors who listen to me and suggest helpful things. If she is alone it is even more difficult to fight. Keep talking to her. Maybe she should read this site to see that many people are thinking of her.

Watched the Colorado Avs=Tampa Bay Lightning game Tues. night as former Houghton High standout Jeff Finger scored the winning goal on the power play in a 3-0 win.He also was chosen as the #3 star.

By theresa (Up4evr) on Thursday, January 17, 2008 - 12:09 pm:

Ozzie I had my picture taken with Jeff Finger in Calumet last summer. WE are Avs fans of course living here in Colrado. Watch most of the games. I did not know Jeff was a Yooper til last summer.

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Thursday, January 17, 2008 - 12:53 pm:

Just a note about medications for depression. I read in the news this morning that they are not as effective as the drug companies claim. Seems that they left out alot of negative testing results. My remedy for depression...exercise, exercise and exercise.

By Jacobsville (Barb) on Thursday, January 17, 2008 - 02:31 pm:

Maija,

We have those small white birds here in Jacobsville too. They're
called "Snow Buntings." They appear in groups on the side of the
road, and I believe their chief mission in life is to scare the wits
out of me as I drive past them.

There's info here:

Hey, I'm back from da left coast. Not a bad place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there.

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Thursday, January 17, 2008 - 05:01 pm:

Meds for depression are not all they are cracked up to be. Why would you give meds to a depressed person when the meds are known to make you gain weight. What depressed person (especially a woman) is going to feel better when she gains weight??!! Effexor definitely will make you gain weight. Get out walking instead. It's so much better for you.

By Snowman (Snowman) on Thursday, January 17, 2008 - 05:51 pm:

I have a very nice quote which I'm sure you will all relate to. "Have a nice warm cup of shut the heck up and go for a long walk."

Welcome back Toivo!

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Thursday, January 17, 2008 - 07:11 pm:

Theresa, so good to hear your daughter is feeling a bit better.....will continue to lift her in prayer.

By JH (Thumbgardener) on Thursday, January 17, 2008 - 08:09 pm:

I've also wondered what kind of birds those were. I've seen flocks of them in open farm fields here in the thumb area. Paul, thanks for that info and Barb, thanks for the link.

By kay Moore (Mskatie) on Thursday, January 17, 2008 - 09:58 pm:

Toivo, my goodness where have you been and for how long!? I found pasty.com the year you were on your tour! How long has that been? 4-5 years? Always liked reading about that trip. Are you back to stay? Often wondered what had happened to you. Welcome back...

By Toivo from Toivola (Toivo) on Thursday, January 17, 2008 - 11:07 pm:

I been gone just about 2 years, but back in time for the 10 year anniversary of the Pasty Cam. My old beater was one of the first luxury automobiles to appear on these pages. I did have to get new coat hangers for the bumper at about 250,000 miles.

What a great picture Toivo. I wonder how many of us who spot one
of those stickers in unexpected locations DOESN'T immediately try
to strike up a conversation with the occupant of the car (provided it
is parked of course). I had one of those stickers on my last car and
met someone here in Toronto who ran up to tell me that his wife is
a Yooper from Munising. Naturally that was not a short
conversation.

By Cindy Barth (Shekinah) on Friday, January 18, 2008 - 11:02 pm:

At the bottom of the January 17 What's Up replies and just before where you can Add a Message, I am surprised to see a Christchurch Weather Ad by Google. The Ad says Christchurch Weather (Today's weather and 5 day forecasts. Comprehensive Christchurch weather.)

I am a "Yooper" that now lives in Christchurch, New Zealand. This weather site is reporting accurate summer weather for the South Island of New Zealand. It is summer here.

My question is ----Is everyone else getting this Christchuch, New Zealand Weather Ad by Google or maybe something else (?) like the weather ad for their area?---- Just curious?

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Saturday, January 19, 2008 - 04:10 am:

Cindy

I'm getting the Christchurch one too. Wonder why. Maybe because
of your posts? Interesting.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Saturday, January 19, 2008 - 04:23 pm:

I have one of those stickers!!!!!
