I don't recall if this was the stretch of highway by the airport being expanded, or if it was coming up to the Seney Stretch, eight years ago today on the Pasty Cam.

By Happy to be in the U.P. (Lahelo) on Sunday, August 19, 2007 - 09:37 am:

Maybe you should of used a different picture today Charlie!!! I love that caption on your picture of the day!

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Sunday, August 19, 2007 - 09:49 am:

Good Morning, Everyone, from Midland, Michigan. Today looks like it will be very much like yesterday--very nice, but cool.

How about a caption something like "The UP & Michigan have 2 seasons a year--winter and cone zone time. Cone zone time is winding down now, just like it was when this picture was taken 8 years ago today."

By F.F. (Flipflop) on Sunday, August 19, 2007 - 09:56 am:

By Pennie (Trolldiva) on Sunday, August 19, 2007 - 10:24 am:

Good morning! Wet and rainy day. At least the weather stayed nice for the Dream Cruise yesterday.

By Therese (Therese) on Sunday, August 19, 2007 - 10:25 am:

Friday I wrote that my Mom, Dolores, 90 years young, had had a heart attack. Friday the cardiologist performed a catheterization and inserted a stent to open a narrowed coronary artery, and she improved almost immediately. She got let loose yesterday afternoon, and is at my house recuperating for a few days. Thanks everyone for prayers and kind words. Who knows, we may go camping in early September for a couple of nights, but somewhere near home and near the hospital ED, just in case.

By Pennie (Trolldiva) on Sunday, August 19, 2007 - 10:25 am:

Its 10:25 and no post from Deb or Mr.Deb.Hope all is well with them.

By John W (Jwahtola) on Sunday, August 19, 2007 - 10:44 am:

Wish we could share some of the rain we received last night with the rest of the state to help with the extreme dry weather. We have had 2 inches over night here in mid Hillsdale County. An the weather service is saying maybe 1-2 more today with rain all the way to Thursday. I am willing to share .

By John W (Jwahtola) on Sunday, August 19, 2007 - 10:47 am:

Charlie that looks a lot like the Seney Stretch just east of Munising.

By Pennie (Trolldiva) on Sunday, August 19, 2007 - 10:53 am:

Glad that mom is doing well Theresa

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Sunday, August 19, 2007 - 11:01 am:

Therese, I guess prayers do help huh?

My son needs to go through that catheterization next month to see what needs to be done to his aortic valve. He's had the defect since birth and he's 21 now and it's gotten to the point where something has to be done. We're worried of course and hoping that they will just need to insert the balloon and be done with it. Otherwise it's repair or replace, neither of which I'm too keen on. So, any prayers will be appreciated.

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Sunday, August 19, 2007 - 11:36 am:

Therese, I am so glad that your mom is doing better! That's awesome!

Deb, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your whole family, and that the doctors can find the solution that is best for Ryan, so that he will have a long and bright future ahead of him. I know that this is a very difficult time for you all, and you all will remain in my prayers! I'm glad that they figured out the problem needs to be corrected now, so they can correct it. Take care!

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Sunday, August 19, 2007 - 11:56 am:

I should edit my first post this morning to show that we have a light drizzle, not nearly enough to lift our outdoor burning ban, though. We could really use an inch or two of rain, at least. I was watching the radar yesterday, when my three sons & husband were boating (I can't do anything remotely like that because of my fractured back). Anyway, it looked like there was a lot of rain on the radar, but it all veered to the south of us, turning just before it hit Midland county, going on for hours. It was really strange--great for boating, but bad for lawns & gardens & farmers! It's like there are the haves & the have nots, as far as rain is concerned, this summer.

By Carole (Carole) on Sunday, August 19, 2007 - 12:18 pm:

I don't think it is the Seney Stretch as you can see a turn in the road, something that the Seney Stretch does not have between Seney and Shingleton.

By David Hiltunen (Davidcorrytontn) on Sunday, August 19, 2007 - 01:16 pm:

It looks to me to be just before the Airport.
Okay,I'am out of here for a week. Don't come rob me the Security Alarm is set,Neighborhood Watch is in effect, lights on timer, ect.

By Therese (Therese) on Sunday, August 19, 2007 - 02:07 pm:

Deb, don't fret too much if the surgeon recommends a new aortic valve. Although valve replacement is major surgery it is done fairly commonly with considerable success. Keep us informed. I will add him to my prayers. They do help!

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Sunday, August 19, 2007 - 02:11 pm:

Thanks, Therese, I'll remember that. And thanks for the prayers. And thank you too, Marianne!

I would be interested to know what make of car the photo was taken in....99 dodge mini van? traveling about 60 in a construction zone? This ought to bring out some interesting replies...

By Charlotte, Mishawaka, IN (Charlotte61) on Sunday, August 19, 2007 - 04:18 pm:

Good afternoon from rainy Mishawaka, IN. Wish we could send some or most of this rain to the UP. Our weather forcast for the week looks like rain every day until Saturday. We will be floating away by then.
I made it through the first week of school. I have a countdown going on my calendar at school for my retirment. I don't want to wish my life away but I do want to know the end is in sight.
Deb, will add your son to my prayer list.

By Cheryl Rozman (Cotton) on Sunday, August 19, 2007 - 04:58 pm:

I hope that Mr Deb's surgery on his shoulder goes fine along with the surgery on her son's heart. They can use alot of prayers in the Deb household.

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Sunday, August 19, 2007 - 06:16 pm:

My sweet little Andrea the Irish dancer came in second place this weekend at Lansings Irish dance festival. Sure enjoyed the cruise here in Berkley this last weekend. Met my high school buddy and his wife and sat on Woodward all day Saturday till the rain started. It hasn't stopped yet. Capt. Paul you missed a great weekend. Hope you and the good doctor made it home safe. Precious has been fed, noodles and roast beef with gravy, peas and all served by me and Jimmie the fat white cat, he helped by not tripping me while I was cooking. Got her showered and ready for bed, sure am going to be happy when the neck brace comes off. Got to get up every morning and get her ready for work, real trooper goes to work even with a broken neck, she said something about it being nicer there then to be home with the old grouch, I don't think that Jimmie the fat white cat is that grouchy.

By Mary Drew at Pasty Central (Mdrew) on Sunday, August 19, 2007 - 08:10 pm:

Hi All,

I just wanted to thank everyone over the past week and a half for the expressions of sympathy, on the loss of my wonderful Mom. I haven't been on here much, since we've been on a get-away to Copper Harbor, so I didn't get a chance to thank everyone. This has been a difficult time for my family, but with help from "above" and the good friends and relatives in our lives, we will be ok. Thank you all for caring so much!

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Sunday, August 19, 2007 - 09:37 pm:

So much has happened while I was in the UP. I just read your
mom's obituary, Mary. What a wonderful lady she must have been.
Therese--I'm glad your mom is doing better. Deb--I will be
remembering Mr. Deb and your son in my prayers.

It seems so noisy here in Toronto, but I know I will get used to it.
Leaving the UP was hard this morning, but there is always the idea
that in another couple of months I'll be back UP. What a wonderful
month I had with my father and all of our family and friends. Now I
really am koskintoronto again.
