Last Saturday, we had a view with several churches and steeples, which prompted Carl Kiilunen to send in a pair of his own. He must have been out fishing in the waters off of Hubbell, since those steeples belong to St. John's Lutheran church on the left and St. Cecilia's Catholic Church on the right. Funny how you don't really notice the steeples when you're close by those churches, but from afar, they really stand out. Also in plain view there in the front of the picture, is the Township Park and Boat Launch. Another good place to take the kids for a picnic and a dip in the lake.

Great picture! I love all of the trees background, and the color of that water looks so refreshing. Maybe someday I'll get to visit and attend mass at St. Cecilia's.

Our family has attended Mass and served at St. Cecelia for 100 years and am sorry to hear that it will be closing this year and the parishoners will be merged with St. Joseph in Lake Linden. When growing up there we played down at the old boathouses where the nice beach is now located. If this picture were taken 50 years ago a steeple of the Methodist church would have been seen on the lower left side of this picture. It was torn down and used in constructing a cottage in the 1960's. Hope all have a great weekend as we expect 80 degree weather in the Monroe area.

My son is in the process of buying a home in Hubbell. Although I haven't seen it yet, in person, he has sent us many pictures of the house and the town. When I looked at the posting this morning the picture looked very familiar to me. Low and behold, his house is on 12th Street and St. John's parking lot is his back yard!

Susan,

In 2004 I took a walk around Hubbell
(I live there also) and took some pictures.

click on this link and you can see more shots of Hubbell.

Not much has changed. Al's supper club and bowling alley has closed, and the Last drop coffee shop closed, went thru a couple ownership changes and is now back open as restrauant.

Bob, Thank you for the guided tour of Hubbell. I can't wait to see it all in person. We'll be up for the big move the very end of July. Do you have any suggestions for a place to stay close by? Although he will now have three bedrooms, at this time he only has one bed. Thanks again. Sue

VERY NICE BUT HUBBELL LOOKS ABOUT AS EXCITING AS THE GREELEY RADAR BASE. WOULD LIKE TO BE OFF SHORE FISHIN' THO.

As I recall, there was a railroad track running right next to these churches. I believe it was the mineral range....

When my mom was at Our Lady in Hubbell, the township park was a godsend for sanity visits during the hospice process.

This is peacefull. My aunt with the last name same as me,married a man named Kiltunen.Back when it was the norm.

Carl,is this taken from a boat on Torch Lake,or from a deck on other side where one would have to take M-26 to Tamerack,Mason, and into $Bay to get there by motor vehicle??

David, The pic was taken a couple hundred yards off the park with a 10x lens. We had been fishing and were on our way back to the Lake Linden marina, Carl.

When I was a child and my family spent most of our summers at camp on the Canadian side. As we rounded Batchawanna Bay we could see the Catholic church steeple at the Indian Reservation in the distance. The closer it got, the more excited all of us kids would get. There was no need to say "are we there yet?"

Nice picture! I sure would love to live along the shores of that lake!! No chance of that so I will just have to enjoy the pictures like Bob's.

That's a great shot! I love churches. When we're traveling, I'm constantly looking for a church I might have missed on our previous travels.
