I knew it was too good to be true... most of our snow was gone, we had put the snow scoop back in the basement and there was rejoicing with the earliest departure of our snow piles, that I can remember. Now we're back to scenes like this one from John Ponchaud, with a small roadside building bordered in the white stuff once again. Of course it is only April, so snow on the ground (and rooftops) this time of year is nothing new, but the early meltdown had us all a little spoiled. Maybe that upside down horseshoe on this building somewhere in the Crystal Falls area, was a sign that our luck has run out and winter has returned.

OH oh. I knew I shouldn't have said I missed the snow. I guess I'll
see plenty of it this weekend when I'm up in Hancock celebrating
my aunt's 90th birthday.

But isn't it beautiful?

Kosk - it would be beautiful if this was December or January. By now I'm remembering how beautiful tulips and crocus and daffodils are!

Mary, if you were superstitious, you could say that you brought the snow in because you put your snow scoop away in the basement too early! :-)

Seriously, I bet there are a whole lot of pictures that could be taken today up in Copper Country with the freshly fallen snow look.

What an awesome photo John!! Mary you certainly have a wonderful way with your words. I love your reference to the horseshoe. KUDOS to you for a fine job everyday. Your explanations enhance the photos.

No snow here in Esky yet, but the winds are strong and out of
the north so I suppose we will get some too. The U.P.'s
weatherman, Carl Bohnak, predicted the winds last night and
said even we Banana Belters had better be prepared for snow
today. I am starting to think that grass seed I planted last week
might have been a little early too. I guess the weather here is a
little different from Adrian down along the Ohio border. Oh,
well, live and learn, eh?

Well, we didn't get 6, but we did get our usual dusting.

We received 11 inches in Painesdale, with drifts way over my knees. Fun drive in to work this AM. The snow is still coming down. No Easter Bonnet for me this year, I will just put my hood up on my winter jacket : )

I am with Marianne about that snow scoop, even down here my snow shovel is still propped on my porch. Probably until memorial day. There's always a last hoorah.

Yikes-----another winter wonder land. We are suppose to get some snow here in Columbus, Ohio this week. Hopefullyl it won't be the "dusting" you folks got in the UP.!! All of our trees have blossoms on them and the spring flowers are in full bloom!!! Mother nature and Heikki Lunta must have met for "coffee".!!!!

Mother Nature is just shaking out the rug one last time.

Hey, it's cold down here tooo.

Hi all
So far, no snow down here in SE Michigan, though last night they predicted it'd be here for the morning commute. The TV weatherman had an interesting idea: the previous couple weeks of warmer-than-usual weather was our "spring break" (he showed a picture of a beach & beach umbrella while citing the numbers of days with a 50, 60 or 70 degree high temperature).

Is todays picture a "April Fools" pic...Nice and cool and windy in Monroe area but no snow today.

Tx......right it is cold.....dream on. Kosk...this is your fault eh...??? I am just sick of the sight of snow....beautiful.... yes... but not wanted.....I have no coke to drink and I cannot get out of the driveway..(I'd get to wet) I'll probably die missing a day without a coke sniff...sniff. Wish I knew some one with a big truck that could deliver.

I hope this is the last of the white stuff...

Helen, I can sympathize with you on your Coke. I used to drink Coke every morning while the others drank coffee. (I never have been a coffee drinker.) Then, I switched to Dr Pepper. Now, my beverage of choice (read caffeine carrier, :-) ) is Arizona Sun Tea iced tea, raspberry flavor.

Anyway, life can be tough without our caffeine sources! We do keep Coke and Dr Pepper in our home, which I do drink occasionally. :-) My sons like Mountain Dew & Dr Pepper, but I never learned to drink Mountain Dew. Oh well...

Yesterday at 6:00 p.m. it was 70° here in Pinckney. Today it's 30° with a wind chill of 17°. Brrr!

Besides Helen it makes your sinus passages sticky

Martha, I am also in Pinckney. Yesterday was great, today froze my butt off Picking my son up after work and its snowing.

Oh Oh. From what I'm hearing from my UP and Ontario Soo/
Sudbury sources, we may have to cancel our plans. I won't decide
for sure til tomorrow though.

And I had all the Easter candy and basket ready to go. Sigh...

This is just another winter. Mimi and I told each other to enjoy this, (when the temps were in the 60s and 70s.)'cause this could be our summer! There's only about an inch of snow, BUT the temp now is only 20° F and the wind is supposed to be blowing 25 to 40 mph, gusting to 50 and over. What kinda wind chill does that give us? The wind in the hardwoods is really loud.

It's about the horseshoe; We have one over our camp door at 5
Mile. It was put up decades ago, and when my best friend saw it w/
the opening down, said "it should be "cup up" to hold the good
luck in, instead of letting the luck run out", so we turned it over.
Can anybody reference this myth?

Technoido, I guess you could make a case for either way. On the one hand, the cup up to hold good luck could make sense. On the other hand, when I have seen horseshoes used as decorations on ranches, or wherever, they have nearly always been "upside down", with the opening down. Maybe that's because on a horse's hoof, the opening is to their back? I guess because that has been the tradition that I have normally seen, I would probably go that way, but that is just me. It's up to you, which way you are more comfortable with it, I would think.

Different cultures put the horseshoes different ways. Americans often have it up to hold the luck, my mom has a friend from Iran and they have theirs pointed down and that is considered good luck.

I know the Irish say to hang the horseshoe "legs up" so that the luck won't run out of it, but there's also a whole ritual you have to go through when you find the horseshoe and carry it home, that probably nobody does, so unless you go through the rest of the ritual, it doesn't matter how you hang your horseshoe!
