A group of snowmobilers, caught on camera eight years ago, get ready for their day. Today they would be getting up earlier -- or is it later? -- thanks to this year's early onset of Daylight Savings Time. Wikipedia has a comprehensive summary of how the time change came about. Saving energy is one of the main rationale provided by the government, although not all agree that the net energy savings is real. Here at the western edge of the Eastern time zone, it means that it says dark even longer in the mornings, making it even tougher to get up. Now, where did I put my coffee cup?

First PostGood Morning!!

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Monday, March 12, 2007 - 07:30 am:

Good Morning!

By Janet Boatman (Janetnwohio) on Monday, March 12, 2007 - 07:55 am:

Good Morning!!! Weather is supposed to be warm in the 60's tomorrow and then it said something about some snow again.

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Monday, March 12, 2007 - 08:05 am:

Having a taste of spring here in east central Iowa...65 today, 73 tomorrow, see ya snow and ice!

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Monday, March 12, 2007 - 08:30 am:

Good Morning, it was a tough wake up but I made it to work. Sadly they frown upon falling back to sleep at your desk. I hope you guys all did better.

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Monday, March 12, 2007 - 08:49 am:

I forgot to change my clocks until Sunday afternoon. You don't miss the hour so much when it happens while you're sleeping, but I really noticed it when I had to turn the clock ahead in the middle of the afternoon. Yawn...

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Monday, March 12, 2007 - 09:00 am:

My mom's atomic clock reset itself like it's supposed to, BUT . . . Sunday night at 8:00 p.m., the clock reverted to 7:00!

By maija in Commerce Township (Maija) on Monday, March 12, 2007 - 09:10 am:

Marsha: strange!

How bout we make a compromise, set the clocks a half hour ahead and leave them year round?

OK, just an idea.

By David Soumis (Davesou) on Monday, March 12, 2007 - 10:04 am:

how bout we just turn them back to the real time and leave them alone. You guys in the UP get double wacked considering you should be central time and they moved you to Eastern.

It stays light in the summer until 11pm up there....which is good for fishing, but not so good for sleep.

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Monday, March 12, 2007 - 10:18 am:

Summer is great as a parent, when you send the kids to bed they say "but its not dark yet". They don't care that its 9:30 and you have been trying for an hour.

By dan belo (Djbelo) on Monday, March 12, 2007 - 10:32 am:

some politicians dont know what time of day it is!

By Laurie B. (Ratherberiding) on Monday, March 12, 2007 - 10:42 am:

When my youngest was a little girl, she asked one summer day if it ever got dark out any more? She went to bed in the daylight and when she woke up, it was light out! I personally love it when it's still light out at 10 p.m.

By Happy to be in the U.P. (Lahelo) on Monday, March 12, 2007 - 10:45 am:

Wikipedia is allegedly a fake website. According to the news reports over the weekend. So who knows what will become of that site.

By Happy to be in the U.P. (Lahelo) on Monday, March 12, 2007 - 11:00 am:

Wikipedia, its some of the ones with the degrees that were fake, so they are going to check into alot deeper. Which is a start!

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Monday, March 12, 2007 - 11:23 am:

Don't forget to wear your purple and green this Friday for St Urho's Day, eh!

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Monday, March 12, 2007 - 11:52 am:

On Wikipedia: from my experience, it can sometimes give you a first overall summary. But, I would never run with info from there for anything critical, without first double-checking it with a few other sources because anyone can "edit" articles, etc. Some journalists tried to put up fake stuff in several places, and easily succeeded. I have warned the multimedia officials in our school districts, & they are teaching the teachers not to accept things from Wikipedia as a single source, without backup sources.

By Beverly, San Jose (Beverly) on Monday, March 12, 2007 - 04:04 pm:

It's a beautiful day in my neighborhood. Warm and sunny. I planted my flower seeds I saved from last year (morning glories) and moon flowers and sweet peas all climbers so they have a nice early start. Hope everyone has a nice day.
Kelly and Kevin, has your hillside exploded with California Poppies yet?
Beverly

By Kelly Kidd (Ellykay) on Monday, March 12, 2007 - 05:35 pm:

Hi Beverly. 80°here in the foothills today with a beautiful blue sky. The Poppies are trying to push out but haven't yet. The cherry tree's are in full bloom in the valley, and the asparagus is on the way. Looks like spring has arrived to central California.

By a m hill (Lvcamnotes) on Monday, March 12, 2007 - 06:18 pm:

marsha, my wall clock did the same thing but
my weather station clock was always correct.

have been looking for joanie's witticism's
but haven't seen any lately? is she
on vacation?

By Just me (Jaby) on Monday, March 12, 2007 - 07:15 pm:

Does anybody know when the guest gallery will start allowing people to add new photos? It has been out of order for a long time. Thanks!

Mary says: Hopefully it will be done soon. Jon told me the other day that things were near completion. Any word on that progress, Charlie or Jon?

By Carole (Carole) on Monday, March 12, 2007 - 07:28 pm:

Some people did like not Joanies 'witticisms' therefore she is no longer on this site. (this is just a statement, nothing else). On another note, how is the new bed and breakfast coming along by Devils washtub.? It sure is a huge building. Also, I see that the Harbor Haus is for sale.

By Danbury (Danbury) on Tuesday, March 13, 2007 - 04:03 am:

Think it was a little more than just "witticisms". Don't think cracking a joke occasionally is enough to bring forth repercussions. Just a thought, not a statement.

Played the first rounds of minigolf on sunday. Made me wonder, is there a place for that UP there?

By Charlie at Pasty Central (Chopper) on Tuesday, March 13, 2007 - 05:26 am:

The Guest Gallery is awaiting the installation of a new server, which is scheduled to arrive by this weekend. The feature has come to require an incredible amount of storage space, and we are installing enough to anticipate future growth.

There are some new features in the upgraded Gallery software. One of my favorites is a "Random Image" function, in a thumbnail image on the left of the screen. In test driving the pre-release I am discovering albums and content which I never noticed before.

Hopefully by next Sunday's Shoebox Memory we will have the Guest Gallery back 'on the air'.
