How's the snow situation up there?

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Saturday, January 13, 2007 - 12:35 pm:

We had ice in Pinckney last night, had to scrape at noon to go out today. Heard they will be getting lake effect up north but not sure about that far up.

By David Hiltunen (Davidcorrytontn) on Saturday, January 13, 2007 - 12:50 pm:

By Gonna be a Yooper (Joanie) on Saturday, January 13, 2007 - 02:15 pm:

Awww David Hiltunen, you'll get your "early bird" one of these days! How about I give you first prize for the nicest profile picture?

By derek tuoriniemi (Derek) on Saturday, January 13, 2007 - 03:38 pm:

that guys got himself a nice scoop there...check out that foot-assist technique to really bust into the snow

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Saturday, January 13, 2007 - 03:55 pm:

David, I'd given up at seeing today's picture too and left and went about my business. It's not like I sit here and wait anyway. I'm usually catching up on e-mails from the night before early in the morning and that's why I'm usually here when the picture comes up. Anyway, later I decided to see what the picture was on pasty, and it had just come up I guess. Luck of the draw!

Where is the picture on this page anyway? Could be Toivola or Twin Lakes I guess. Anyone???

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Saturday, January 13, 2007 - 04:18 pm:

Is the picture today of the little shop in Copper Harbor called Up North?

By Gonna be a Yooper (Joanie) on Saturday, January 13, 2007 - 05:07 pm:

David, speaking of a first prize, my son went to a Halloween Party and he wound up getting first prize. He burst out in tears and the party host asked Bill what was wrong. Bill replied "I'm just here to pick up my brother"!

By timd (Timd) on Saturday, January 13, 2007 - 05:14 pm:

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Saturday, January 13, 2007 - 05:24 pm:

He does, but you'll notice that he has a Wild jacket on.

By Gonna be a Yooper (Joanie) on Saturday, January 13, 2007 - 05:43 pm:

That's because Ron is Wild!

By a m hill (Lvcamnotes) on Saturday, January 13, 2007 - 07:14 pm:

i do notice that the snow scoop is from
silver bear -- as i have one myself.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Saturday, January 13, 2007 - 08:03 pm:

Never mind, it's not a Wild jacket. It's a hockey all-star jacket that he won the year the all star game was held in Minnesota. He got to see Gordie Howe that day. He also got to see Ted Lindsay. He was in his glory that day. He and the boys had their picture taken with the Stanley Cup. He lives and breathes hockey!

By David Hiltunen (Davidcorrytontn) on Saturday, January 13, 2007 - 10:03 pm:

Gordie Howe, his son's played for the Jr.Wings.I used to go to The Olympica on Grand River and watch them play and pratice, uncle Carl was the coach,he lived in Gordie's neighborhood, and took me over there a time or two back in the early 60's.Of course Mark played for the Wings,i can't remember the other sons name at this time.

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Saturday, January 13, 2007 - 10:12 pm:

Dave--
Lucky you. What an interesting connection to a hockey great.
When I was a kid we used to watch the hockey games (no choice!)
whenever we went to my Aunt's house. Her husband was a
Canadian and a fierce Red Wings fan. Good thing I paid some
attention considering I've lived in Canada for the last 30 years. In
Canada, today is officially known as "Hockey Day in Canada."

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Saturday, January 13, 2007 - 10:33 pm:

Been watching since about 6 central Kosk. We don't get CBC as a regular station, just have the NHL on satellite. I try not to miss HNIC ever. Don Cherry Rules!!!!!

By timd (Timd) on Sunday, January 14, 2007 - 07:18 am:

Must have banker's hour's Again,LOL.

By Randall Ollila (Rwolli) on Sunday, January 14, 2007 - 08:54 am:

Morning All
-DAVE H- Gordies other son is named Marty. Played one year with him in either Pee Wee or Bantam here in the Detroit area. Gordie came to practice a couple times at the Detroit Skating Club (the old one at 7mi and Meyers) and he could shoot harder one handed than most of us kids could with both hands.

By David Hiltunen (Davidcorrytontn) on Sunday, January 14, 2007 - 11:12 am:

Thanx you Randall i just couldn't come up with it.I was thinking Mel, Donnie and Mark but they are the Grand Funk Railroad kids i knew.I went to watch them pratice often when Gordie was there,i know it was in Redford someplace.

By Bob Tiura (Bobtiura) on Sunday, January 14, 2007 - 12:31 pm:

Dave H, Gordie's third son was Murray. He wasn't as good a hockey player, but he became a doctor instead. I saw Marty and Mark play in the state championships at Dee Stadium in the mid 60s. I don't recall what age level they were in, but they both played on the same team. They were probably accompanied by Coleen Howe as Mr. Howe was still busy playing with the Wings. I also saw Gordie play baseball with current and retired Wings in a game at Southfield High School in the late 50s. Gordie hit a ball onto 10 Mile Road, which made it about 450 feet on the fly.
