The tallest steeple on the left is St. Anne's church, as seen from Swedetown Hill in Calumet. When I took that picture 8 years ago today, little did I realize I'd be spending quite a bit of time up in that bell tower a few years later. Somewhere I have a voice recording I made the first time I climbed up there to see if it would make a good location for a wireless access point/relay for Pasty.NET's broadband project.

As we go back through the archives in that first year of the Pasty Cam, nearly every picture could be a chapter in a book about the adventure we have lived during the past decade. (Next month marks the 10th anniversary of the domain name 'pasty.com'.) Our involvement with St. Anne's was due to the creative ideas of John Pippenger, who passed away earlier this year. Every time I see that familiar steeple I think of John. What a remarkable community of friends we have made during the Pasty Central years.

Is that Calumet? Looks like it. Nice shot, anyway!

Ignore the above question. Maybe I should have read Charlie before commenting! Sorry!

Hi, just wanted to share our little surprise. I came home a couple of Friday's ago and this little guy was sitting in the pasture. His arrival was more then a month early, but he was ready. His first time Mom did well too. Here is a pic of the two (now about two weeks old). (Thanks Mary for the help!) Hope this works.

Good morning everyone. And Happy Hump Day. Usedtobeayooper, you definately brightened up my day today. I'll be singing that song all day long now, "Wednesday's hump day, middle of da week day." :)

Congrats Llamamama, what a cutie pie :) Or should we call you Llamamagranmama now? Now try saying that ten times fast ;) So what are you going to name the new addition?

By lz (Llamamama) on Wednesday, April 26, 2006 - 09:11 am:

Sur5er, I will spare you the entire registered name gobbly gob. My husband usually christens the lay name and has been calling him "Slurpee". SIGH...not really appropriate for the future stud he will be. BTW, my poor pic resolution does not portray the unique hair structure he has. I was breeding for that and it is called Suri. (Husband has a phonetic problem i.e. slurpee.) Suri llamas have been around much longer then Mr. Cruise's choice of child names (I use Mr. loosely here.). :o>

Llamamamma...how sweet! About how much does this new little one weigh? How long is the gestation period for a llama? If everything goes as planned, this time next year I too will be expecting a new arrival..a miniature horse foal.

By lz (Llamamama) on Wednesday, April 26, 2006 - 09:44 am:

Bobbysgirl, how exciting re: the foal! A friend has mini draft horses. Act like the family dog, so sweet, but still a hefty tyke! When is your foal due? A2 (my common name for junior) weighed 16 pounds at birth. All legs and neck. He was a little light for llamas, (should be around 20 #'s) but Mama was small also and his sire is not heavy. He gains about a pound a day and by day 2 was running full tilt up and down hills. Has not stopped running yet. Gestation is 365 days. He went 349.

By Ms. Katie (Mskatie) on Wednesday, April 26, 2006 - 09:53 am:

Llmamama, yes how cute. They aren't your first llmas hey? I see these interesting critters around here and wonder the same as Janie, gestation etc. Tell us some of their traits. Isn't it neat how we attach to our critters almost like family friends. I used to get annoyed with my folks' "Sparky did this or that)" ( their dog) etc. Now I do the same about our Betsy and Holly(hock) our feline princesses.

By JanieT (Bobbysgirl) on Wednesday, April 26, 2006 - 10:36 am:

Llamamamma, I'm taking my miniature mare to the breeders in June and if things go well the foal will arrive in May '07. 11 long months gestation period to wait and another winter to go through, ha! The mini's foals at birth stand 15 inches to 17 inches tall.

John Pippenger. What a very nice intelligent man he was. He is missed!

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Wednesday, April 26, 2006 - 11:26 am:

Kelly still hasn't had Jack, she has been having contractions since around April second.Wish that kid could hurry up he is making a nervous wreck of his grandparents along with the rest of the family.

Hello everyone. It's a beautiful and sunny day here in the lower west. The baby llama looks adorable. Those little ones can sure brighten things up!

Happy Afternoon KJ & Nate(and everyone else!) : )

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Wednesday, April 26, 2006 - 04:22 pm:

Sur5er, Have you driven everybody nuts with your singing yet? Has anybody told you not to quit your day job? lol Oh, I forgot, you do most of your work at night. Therefore, don't quit your night job. lol

Llamamama, What an adorable animal! He is so cute! You're right. It's not a very nice name for a future stud.

Mikie, Tell your daughter to hang in there! He'll come when he's darn good and ready. How's little Joseph doing? I think it was the candles that helped him.

By Nate (Nalwine) on Wednesday, April 26, 2006 - 05:05 pm:

Happy Afternoon to you too Debra Jean! I hope you enjoy your burritos tonight.

By Margaret, Amarillo TX (Margaret) on Wednesday, April 26, 2006 - 05:55 pm:

Thanks everyone for giving me encouragment. It didn't look so bad today. Each day is a new day.

By Beverly, San Jose (Beverly) on Wednesday, April 26, 2006 - 09:11 pm:

Hi Margaret, did your day get any better today?
Sur5er: how much did that paper work weigh after you got it all bundled up?
Ms. Katie, I haven't forgotten you. I will answer your e-mail as time presents itself.

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Wednesday, April 26, 2006 - 10:09 pm:

Well I made spagetti yesterday and have had it for two days. Any ideas for tomorrow? Tired of every thing that I make. I may have to go out for dinner. Precious wont like Wendys after a hard day at work. Maybe I should get my daughter to invite us to dinner.

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Wednesday, April 26, 2006 - 11:10 pm:

Mikie, How about you throw a slab of beef into the crock pot...add some potatoes, onions, and other veggies....and waaaaaaaaaala, roast with veggies.

Beverly, All that paperwork weighed in at a little under 20 pounds...and that was for each packet of information, that had to be sent to several state and federal agencies. So more than 100 pounds of paperwork. That has to be a record, eh. Keeping busy this week with phone conferences ;)

Maragaret, Glad to hear that you are feeling chipper and looking at the brighter side of all the good you have done ;)
