In the U.P. we normally don't receive much sunshine this time of year, although the last few days we've welcomed a nice dose of it here in the Keweenaw. Now I've heard of folks that use light lamps to simulate sunshine when it doesn't make an appearance during the winter months, but this feline has found his own way to brighten the day. Miles the cat, belongs to Nate and Hilarie Alwine and was caught reaching for the light from the new coat tree. According to Nate, he climbed up there like a monkey, but then couldn't figure out how to get down. By the way, there's a new light in the Alwine household, with the birth of their daughter Callie Jane. Congratulations!

If you're looking for something fun to help pass the winter days, check out the schedule of events taking place in Hancock, during Heikinpäivä 2006.

Here kitty, kitty. I used to know how the cat felt. Down here we get 360 days of sun.

When I was a kid we had siamese cats, once in a while a fly would get trapped among the light shade and fly around in circles, oh the fun it was to watch those siamese try to get that fly!! Their determination provided a lot of entertaintment!! Congratulations on your birth of you daughter!! :)

Another kitty up a "tree". If he tips that light over! It looks like the type that has a halogen bulb and they cost $11-$13 each!

Nate and Hilarie, Thanks for sharing the pics of Miss Callie...what a cutie pie she is. Too funny about kitty not knowing how to get down...I guess her 'reverse gear' isn't fully developed yet, eh :)

It looks like kitty thinks that lampshade is a big bowl of kitty food and is heading on over there.

Bad kitty!
No mouse for you.

Wow... that's a mighty hefty coat rack! I thought it was a kitty pirch when I first saw the picture. Let's just hope Miles does not have to use the kitty box any time soon!

Congrats on the new addition! Many blessings and good luck with both Callie and Miles!

What a funny picture of Miles. I don't remember him being that big when we saw him this past fall. Anyway, congratulations Nate and Hilarie once again on your bouncing baby girl. She's beautiful!

Hi Brock! : )

What a high perch your on Miles. How on earth did
you get up so high?

West Michigan (LP) was the cloudiest place in the world for
the two weeks around Christmas--less than 5% of possible
sunshine. When it did peep out for one day, it made the
front page center of the Grand Rapids Press.

Hey all, Callie Jane has finally been released from the hospital. She came home today and now we're getting ready for our first night alone with her :p. And Miles says hello too, he's happy to sign autographs

Dear Nate,

Hooray! How wonderful to be able to start your
life as a family. Of course, that includes Miles.
I don't think my dog Rusty will be asking for
autographs any time soon though.
