Whether you're cruising on the well worn main highways across the U.P. or on the less traveled roads, old farmsteads such as this one photographed by Dan Brown dot the countryside along your way. Some of them are still in use, the barns filled to the rafters with hay. Others are no longer working farms, with only echoes filling the haylofts now. Whichever is the case for the one pictured here near Eben Junction, there's something about it that draws you in.

Happy New Year! Thanks to Pasty Cam for a great year of pics/ I too have always wanted to convert a barn into a house, but considered it a bit to "lofty" of an idea.

Good Morning Everyone! Hope 2006 will be a joyous and prosperous year for all.

A peaceful pic indeed! around here in east central Iowa one has to drive nearly 20 miles to see anything that resembles a farm anymore, my hubby and I have 20 acres and 9 horses, a lot of the new neighbors in our area think of what we have is a farm, ha!

Now this is a picture of winter...with snow on the ground. Here in Indiana, we are dealing with rain showers, and the snow has long melted away. I think Indiana has two season: rain season...and more rain season. What I would give to be in the UP with the snow right now. Sigh.

Once a barn, always a barn. The smell will be around for years, especially a horse barn

Happy New Year to you all! Anyone know if Toni's is open in January? I'll be back around the 18th for a few days (see you at the Tori on Sat. the 21st!!).

Once a barn, always a barn -- YES! We went in an antique shop in Nova Scotia a few years ago; it was in a converted barn and had lots of atmosphere. It was a very warm day, and there was lots of smell, too. Now whenever I read in a decorating magazine about a house made in an old barn, I think of that one.

Last summer hubby and I were riding motorcycles and went by an area of hog confinements with the family home within 150 ft of it. Next best thing to living in the confinement itself, must be the saying "that's the smell of money"

I'd like to convert that barn into my home and move there! :)

And by the way... For all those who laughed at me for messing up the Happy New Year picture, here it is in real life!

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Sur5er, if Nature doesn't send snowflakes make your own. See http://www.popularfront.com/snowdays/ to 'cut' a flake and post it for all to admire. Warning -- it is addictive!

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Monday, January 2, 2006 - 04:54 pm:

Thanks Therese :) Now if I can manage to make enough snowflakes to form a snowball to throw at the weather forecaster, who keeps saying, "isn't it great that all this rain isn't snow?" Hullo...it's winter. ;)

Oh, how beautiful! Thanks, Therese.

Janie. We smell a lot of that stuff out in our faming area of N.W. Illinois. Hubby says the same thing "it smells like Money to me. I answer "if it isn't MY money, it stinks like **** to me" :O
