We’re checking out some of the beautiful water scenes that appeared in the archives on this day, starting with a photo from David Soumis back in 2005. He was on his way to the Porkies, via Ontonagon when he decided to stop and snap a shot of the Lake Superior waves rolling in alongside the highway.
Our next water view was snapped by Lynn Virtanen in 2008, while she was canoeing on the Autrain River in Alger County. If you look closely, you can see what looks like a rope hanging from that big leaning tree, which I’m guessing someone tied there so folks could swing out over the river and drop into the water there. Good old fashion fun!
In 2010, we joined Melanie Hakala Rossi for a close-up look through the clear waters of Lake Superior at the rocks below. It must have been one of those unusually calm days on the Big Lake for the clarity with barely a ripple in the water. I love how the sun is reflecting through those ripples on the water and rocks below.
Our current water shot was also snapped by Melanie Hakala Rossi while she was on the shores of Lake Superior just north of the mouth of the Montreal River recently. It’s a typical scene of the Big Lake, with rocky outcroppings and hazy shores beyond. Nothing really to distinguish this spot from another, but definitely the signature of Lady Superior’s shoreline around the Keweenaw.
While checking out today’s photos with the waves and water, I was thinking how nice it would be if these photos came with sound and then I happened upon today’s video and figured it would be the perfect one to accompany these water scenes.
