Traveling around the U.P. again today, within the archives, along with a current photo. Rick Anderson of Skypixs was flying over what was the home of Pasty Central back in 2001, Still Waters, now known as Garden View had just gotten the roof replaced and Rick flew over to get a view of it. It’s neat to see the campus back then with the buildings and wings that made up the Assisted Living facility.
We join, E. Neil Harri for the next aerial shot, taken back in 2008, when the Ranger III was headed out of the breakwall at the Upper Entry of the Portage Canal on its way over to Isle Royale. On the right side of the breakwall is McLain Park and on the left side is the Hancock Breakers.
For our third archive photo, we head just about as far east as the U.P. goes, to Sault Ste. Marie, with Philip Odum in 2014. He took this shot from the Tower of History in the Soo. It was his first time up in the tower and he said those 292 steps to the top were a lot of stairs! Quite the "birds eye view" of the town, though, so it was worth the climb.
We head south for our current photo of the day, taken by Paul Roberts this week when he decided to find a comfy spot to sit and relax in Father Marquette Park over on Mackinac Island. Paul said it was so nice there, that he ended up falling alseep in that spot. Great view and a good spot for napping, too!
Since the Ranger III was headed over to Isle Royale, I figured we might as well take a tour of the Rock Harbor Lodge and the Housekeeping cabins there, that visitors can reserve for their stay on the Island. This video was done in 2016, so the prices quoted for the rooms have more than likely gone up since then.

Wow! I absolutely love the second and fourth pictures. We're headed to Taylor's Falls, Wisconsin today for a riverboat ride gotten the St Croix River. We were supposed to be on Munising today for a few days for sightseeing. Since we can't because of Ron's knee, we'll do some stuff around here that we never do. There's a lot of beauty to be seen around here too. Should be fun.

When my mom was still living, Bill and I use to take movies when we came up here to visit. Then go back to her house, make some popcorn and watch them. She got a kick out of that. She loved the bear from a Porcupine Mountain trip. We took movies of the church, if you will, that the monks built. She always wanted to see what that looked like.......she just enjoyed them..;O)

In the View from Fr. Marquette Park 2018, what cruise line and/or ship is that at the dock? Are there cruise ships on the Lakes again? In 1959 I sailed aboard the SS NORTH AMERICAN. We sailed normally from Chicago to Buffalo,N.Y. The sister ship SS SOUTH AMERICAN sailed from Chicago to Duluth, MN with stops in Munising and Houghton. The SS ALABAMA was part of the line, too. Anyone remember those ships?

I remember the North and the South American. My high school senior trip was aboard the SS South American from Detroit to Mackinac Island.

Ken, not sure but I think it may not be a cruise ship but one of the ferries (Shepler's, maybe)from St Ignace(?) Anyone?

That sounds possible, I didn't think ferry. It looks bigger than the older ones. Interesting.

Ken I think that is either Victory 1 or Victory 2. It is a cruise ship. There are several cruise ships on the Great Lakes now. I too remember the South American. My high school senior trip was also from Detroit to Mackinac and return.
