On this day over the past 19 years there has been a lot of beautiful landscapes, close-ups of people and wildlife, and U.P. history. But 3 pictures jumped out at me, the nitty-gritty of everyday life in the U.P.: Daryl Laitila's 2000 shot of firefighters in Houghton, R.C. Wetton's portrait of Jilly the Cow on the move in 2002, and a shot I recall taking in 2008 at the old Kauppi Konvenience store south of Calumet. During these two decades of daily exploration we have seen gas vary from less than a dollar to over $4 a gallon, and prices are again in the mid-$2 range currently. The TV-6 report from 2014 is a good window on these ups and downs.

Hope you had a good Thanksgiving weekend with family and friends. Have a good week :o)

Gas prices have been decent this pass year in SE-MI, so no complaints here...and hoping your holiday was good as well, Sir Charles.

Gas prices have been pretty good here in MN, also.
Some ups and downs, but for the most part pretty
good.

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend.
I hate to see it come to an end.

Enjoy the time to relax Deb. In less than a month that whiskered gentleman from the North will come forth. More wonderful times!!!!

There are a good number of both boatnerds and railfans in Pastyland.
For the railfans among us, here's an item I just happened upon today.

The (click →) The Pennsylvania Railroad (PRR) T1 Steam Locomotive Trust is a non-profit organization that … is constructing PRR T1 5550. [… hopefully allowing PRR 5550 to be completed by 2030 at an outstanding cost of $10,000,000 US!]

Their ultimate goal is to provide mainline steam excursion service, and to set the World Speed Record for a steam locomotive.(!) See the above link for details.

Can you imagine? In this day and age? And for Ten million bucks? 😲

Fortunately gas prices haven't been too bad this year. They have a hundred excuses to raise the price... It's all GREED. All the maintenance problems have always been there, and demand has always been there. It never was that way some years ago, but now that there is no regulation, they raise as needed to keep up the profits. During the recessionary period, everybody had to make concessions,,, but not the gas companies, they just elevated the price as needed without hurting profits and bonuses. I worked for a company that supplied certain items to the oil companies. Money and spending is no object. They will just pass it on to the customers.
