This must be a good time of year for summer storms to hit, since there were several cloud formations and lightning storms featured in the past 19 years on this date. The first one was back in 2003, snapped by Keith Meyers down in Chassell, looking northeast over Portage Lake. Quite the spectacular looking cloud!

The next two shots were taken by Brad Uren in 2014, overlooking Lake Superior out at Sedar Bay. He captured a "storm cell" over the Big Lake and then quite the lightning storm happening as it moved along. Amazing shots of Mother Nature at work.

With all the clouds and lightning flashes today, I thought maybe the video of the day should have some of the same so you could actually see some of the flashing as it happens. I was a little disappointed that there was no sound, as it would have been neat to hear the rumbling of the thunder, too.

Great pictures today. Lightning is very fascinating. I thought the pictures were apropos in light of the fact that the intense storms in our area are on the increase.

really wild weather pass over in the small
hours this morning, though everyone in the
house peacefully slept through it. Wind only
gusted to about 40 here in the Muskegon area,
but they confirmed a 91 mph gust on the north
breakwater at Grand Haven, and an unofficial
gust reading of over 100 down there. Massive
power outages from parts of the Muskegon area
all the way to Lansing. Looking at the outage
map, looks like out here on the dune, we were
onlyabout a half mile north of where the power
outages started to fill the map in with lots of
different colors. Hope everyone pulled through
this OK!
