One of the sure signs that Spring has sprung here in the Copper Country is the explosion of color from the crocuses as they begin blooming. Bob Gilreath captured today's colors in his Hubbell backyard flower bed, commenting that he wished they would bloom all year, not just now, as a harbinger of spring.

It's always a welcome sight to spot these pretty flowers popping out of the ground, since by now, us Yoopers are sick of seeing the dirty white snow, the muddy brown tire ruts and the gray, leafless trees. It's a welcome respite from the drab, adding a colorful POP to everything here UP North.

Rise & Shine little Crocuses

Woo-Hoo, it's spring!! Our weather hasn't been the
greatest but, with all the rain, it sure has greened
up out there. There will be flowers all over the
place soon. Can't wait to get out there to plant.
Great pictures!!

Beautiful colors! Thanks for sharing, Bob!

When I turned over my Garden Calendar page last month, I found this delightful verse:

First a howling blizzard woke us,
Then the rain came down to soak us,
And now before the eye can focus--
CROCUS!
--Lilja Rogers

How can one not believe in the resurrection, when spring is a miraculous demonstration. A comforting reminder to all who need that today.

Brilliant colors!
"It's not that easy being green; Having to spend each day the color of the leaves.
When I think it could be nicer being red, or yellow or gold- or something much more colorful like that."

Capt!!!

What's the story? How are you & Dr. Nat?

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Thursday, April 21, 2016 - 07:48 pm:

Well, our area was ground zero for the heaviest rain. We got 15.3 inches in 6 hours which flooded everything around us, but not our immediate neighborhood. Just west of us by about 6 miles was the 17.6 inches that they keep saying on the news. Just for reference, downtown Houston only got about 6.5 inches and the areas they keep showing on the news about 8-10 inches. Today was the first day we have been able to move about freely since last Sunday, although many of the roads are still flooded/closed around here.

By jbuck (Jbuck) on Thursday, April 21, 2016 - 07:59 pm:

Yikes! Amazing you weren't floating away with 15.3" of rain! Thanks for letting us know you guys are alright.

Cap'n Paul:

Glad to hear you and Dr. Nat are "high and dry" — if only by a few inches — after all that deluge! Did you ever finish building that ark?

Y'all being geologists, I hope your ark isn't like (click —) this one!

Speaking of geologists, I just recently learned this:

Quote:

"Geologists are Gneiss, Tuff and a Little Wacke."
