Jeff Kalember and his son, Bear (a.k.a Harrison) enjoyed some back country fun in the Munsing area. They camped at Tourist Park and did a hike near Miners Castle, swam at Miner's beach and Harrison even jumped off the cliffs on the west side of the beach there. He's much braver than me, I couldn't have taken the plunge from that high up.

They went over to Mosquito River, which is a 4 mile round trip hike and that's where they found the rack cairn in the second photo. These are often used to show hikers the way on trails or just a way of saying you've been there, without defacing the property. I'm guessing this one is there for the latter.

Next stop in their adventures was at Sand Point beach. That's Bear half out of the water or is it the camera that is half in and half out of the water. Whichever the viewpoint, it's a neat shot showing why it's called Sand Point, since there's a nice sandy bottom here on Lake Superior. On the north side of the beach, they found tons of driftwood and even a dugout little house someone had made, with a driftwood ceiling. Jeff said it was pretty neat!

The last two photos were taken at Grand Sable Dunes, nine years apart. In the first of the pair, you can see Sable Lake behind Bear. The last shot was taken in June 2006 on the same spot, just a different direction. Bear is the little guy in front, with his sister Anna and brother Andrew. Jeff said Andrew used to be his camping partner, but is now at MTU all summer and school year, so Bear has taken over as Dad's partner. Nice that the Kalember adventures have continued throughout the years!

I agree, Alex, that clear water is beautiful.
Thanks, Jeff and 'Bear'.

I think a Sasquatch lives in the driftwood dugout...

An excellent father and son adventure. I am sure "Bear" will follow his brothers path and be enrolled in college also.
