The CopperDog 150 Sled Dog races were run UP here in the Keweenaw over the weekend and brockit inc was on hand to photograph the event. These first 5 photos were shot on 5th Street in downtown Calumet, where the racers began. They capture the excitement perfectly, with the dogs jumping in the air, along with being held back to wait for their turn to be let loose on the track. Then you see the crowd high-fiving a musher as the team races by them, with the dogs raring to go and focused on what they love to do... run!

The sixth picture shows you the safety and guidance for the teams whenever they're crossing the highway along their way. There's always a number of volunteers and/or bystanders that line up to guide the dogs across so they stay on the trail, not to mention how they also stop the vehicle traffic ahead of the teams arrival. That last photo shows the team of dogs as they make a corner to continue on their way. Mush, Haw! (Get moving, turn to the left!)

Very nice set! I never knew that Gee and Haw are voice commands used to tell the dogs to turn right or left. I always thought they just knew where to go...like my Wing :-)

Who is having the most fun here? The dogs? The Mushers? or the crowd? I'm betting it's a 3 way tie!

I'd love to get there some day for this. But
until then, I can always count on pasty.com. Fun

The Copper Dog 150 is one of the most wonderful and enjoyable events in the Keweenaw thanks to the mushers and the gazillions of volunteers who make it all happen. Hats off to everyone involved!
